About the Organization

At First Hand Psychotherapy Center, located in Silver Spring, Maryland, we are committed to providing high-quality mental health care that emphasizes safety, support, and healing for trauma survivors. Our community health clinic specializes in evidence-based therapies for individuals facing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex trauma, and dissociative disorders. Joining our organization means becoming part of a forward-thinking team focused on making a meaningful impact in the lives of our patients.

Work Environment

The position is designed to provide flexibility and autonomy, allowing our therapists to work remotely. This arrangement fosters a healthy work-life balance while ensuring you remain connected with colleagues and clients alike. Our clinic strives to maintain a supportive virtual workspace, promoting collaboration and communication through regular team meetings and case consultations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive trauma-informed mental health assessments to evaluate clients' history and challenges related to trauma.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop and implement tailored treatment plans that focus on their unique recovery goals and resilience-building strategies.
  • Utilize evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), to facilitate healing.
  • Deliver engaging individual and group therapy sessions that support clients in processing their trauma and developing effective coping mechanisms.
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention services to clients experiencing trauma-related emergencies, ensuring their safety and support.
  • Educate clients and their families about trauma responses and coping strategies, empowering them to navigate the healing process.
  • Maintain meticulous and confidential documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations, contributing to an efficient care delivery process.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities and stay current with best practices in trauma therapy.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including psychiatrists and social workers, to create a holistic care approach for each client.
Patient Population / Client Focus

The focus of this role is on providing exceptional care to adult and adolescent trauma survivors. Our clients often grapple with the effects of trauma that impact their daily lives, relationships, and overall well-being. As a therapist, you will have the opportunity to play a critical role in their journey towards recovery, fostering empowerment and resilience through specialized therapeutic practices.

Qualifications
  • Master's or doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • A current and valid licensure as an LCMFT, LMFT, LCPC, or LCSW-C in the state of Maryland.
  • Possession of strong knowledge regarding trauma-related disorders and treatments.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, characterized by empathy, patience, and the ability to listen actively.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems to maintain accurate client documentation.
Preferred Experience
  • A minimum of two years of post-licensure clinical experience, preferably working with trauma-affected clients.
  • Experience applying trauma-focused therapy techniques and interventions effectively.
Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position ranges from $90,000 to $110,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to a competitive salary, we provide comprehensive healthcare benefits, a retirement savings plan with employer-matching contributions, and generous paid time off (PTO) alongside holiday pay.
