Set Up Machinist Job Description
Our High-End Lighting and Furniture company is looking for an experienced Set Up Machinist who can set up a variety of CNC machines and help to enhance the productivity of our organization. The successful candidate will set-up various machines and be responsible for producing the first part to ensure set up accuracy. Responsibilities and Duties
- Set up a variety of CNC machines, Mills and Lathes, utilizing common tools. Set Tools, Work Coordinates, Fixturing, etc. in accordance with WO Set Up Sheets and Travelers.
- Read work orders, set up sheets and examine product specifications to determine setup procedures.
- Set up CNC machines in accordance with set up sheets and work orders.
- Install Mill and Lathe tooling on equipment.
- Position heads, tooling and make initial tool offset adjustments to achieve proper product dimensions.
- Load and maintain single and multiple part programs.
- Translate the requirements of detailed engineering print into measurements for production
- Qualify machine set up on an initial piece to ensure it meets required specifications.
- Use dials, calipers, micrometers, height gauges and a variety of measuring instruments to ensure tolerance requirements are met.
- Communicate issues that arise in the process of setting up to machine Lead and/or Programmer. Qualifying the 1st part.
- Check machinery daily to guarantee safe functionality.
- Follow Company Maintenance and daily operation procedures.
- Follow all company safety protocol.
- Clean and maintain equipment.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma/GED required, associate degree or higher preferred.
- 5+ years' experience using production machinery.
- Understanding of terms and language used in manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of CNC machine set up processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of Fanuc and Prototrak machine controls and their function during operation.
- Knowledge of efficient and safe machine operation.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering prints.
- Proficiency in determining correct speeds and feeds for machining steel, stainless steel, brass, bronze, aluminum, and acrylic
- Proven history of working with dials, calipers, micrometers, height gauges and a variety of measuring instruments to ensure tolerance requirements are met.
- Proficient with Fanuc controls
- Conversational software experience (Prototrak preferred)
- 3-Axis CNC experience
- Must possess strong math skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and suggest improvements upon existing programs.
- Attention to detail to produce high quality product.
- Ability to multitask and shift priorities as required.
