Job description

About Family Vision Optical

Family Vision Optical is a growing, family-oriented eye care practice with a brand-new office and a strong commitment to our patients and community. We take pride in providing an exceptional patient experience while staying current with the latest advances in eyewear, dry eye treatment, and ocular health and wellness.

We’re looking for another great person to join our team. Previous optical or eye care experience is not required—we are willing to train the right candidate. What matters most is that you enjoy working with people, learn quickly, pay attention to details, and take pride in providing outstanding service.

Our office is busy and fast-paced, so the ideal candidate is someone who can stay organized, handle multiple responsibilities, and maintain a positive and professional attitude throughout the day.

The Position

The primary focus of this position is working directly with patients in our optical department. You will help patients select eyewear and educate them about frame and lens options based on their needs, lifestyle, and preferences.

There is an important consultative sales component to this position. We are looking for someone who is comfortable talking with patients, asking questions to understand their needs, explaining different options, and confidently making recommendations. Our goal is not high-pressure sales—it is helping patients understand their choices and recommending products and solutions that provide value and meet their individual needs.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Helping patients select frames and lens options
  • Educating patients about eyewear, lens technology, dry eye products, eye care supplements, and ocular health and wellness products
  • Asking questions to understand patients' needs and making appropriate product recommendations
  • Clearly explaining the benefits and value of different products and options
  • Adjusting, fitting, and dispensing glasses
  • Checking in and verifying frames and lenses
  • Scheduling patients and assisting with patient check-in
  • Performing basic patient workups and testing
  • Maintaining an organized and welcoming optical area
  • Learning new products, technology, and services as our practice continues to grow

Who We're Looking For

We can teach optical skills. We're looking for someone who brings the right attitude, work ethic, and ability to connect with people.

A successful candidate will be:

  • Friendly, confident, and comfortable starting conversations with patients
  • Able to build rapport and make patients feel comfortable
  • Focused on providing an excellent customer experience
  • A good listener who can identify a patient's needs and help them make purchasing decisions
  • Comfortable recommending products and explaining their value
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Comfortable learning new technology and computer systems
  • Able to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Dependable and willing to take ownership of responsibilities
  • Coachable, curious, and eager to learn
  • Excited to be part of a growing practice and team

You do not have to be an extrovert to succeed in this position. You do need to enjoy working with people and be comfortable approaching patients, asking questions, making recommendations, and confidently guiding them through decisions.

The learning curve can be steep, so curiosity, initiative, and the ability to learn quickly are important.

Previous optical experience is a plus but not required. Experience in a professional, customer-service, retail, hospitality, sales, or healthcare environment will receive additional consideration.

Our Philosophy

Our team is constantly learning and improving. We pride ourselves on staying current with the latest technology, products, and services our profession has to offer.

Our areas of particular focus include optical, dry eye, and ocular health and wellness. Candidates should be excited about learning these areas and comfortable educating patients about products and services that may benefit them.

We believe great patient care includes listening carefully, educating patients about their options, and confidently recommending solutions that can improve their vision, comfort, and overall eye health.

Schedule

This is a full-time position:

Monday: 8:45 AM–6:00 PM
Tuesday: 8:45 AM–6:00 PM
Wednesday: 8:45 AM–5:00 PM
Thursday: 8:45 AM–5:00 PM
Friday: 8:45 AM–12:00 PM

Benefits

Full-time employees are eligible for:

  • Health insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Vision benefits

If you enjoy helping people, like learning new things, and are comfortable educating patients and making recommendations, we'd love to hear from you.

What Success Looks Like

At Family Vision Optical, success is about more than completing a list of tasks. How you care for patients, support your teammates, learn, and take ownership of your role is just as important as what you accomplish.

Our Core Values define what success looks like on our team:

CARE — Genuinely Care About People and Their Well-Being

  • Make every patient feel welcomed, listened to, and cared for.
  • See each patient interaction as an opportunity to educate, advise, and help improve their vision, eye health, and quality of life.
  • Listen carefully and show empathy and compassion toward patients and coworkers.
  • Communicate honestly and professionally, including setting appropriate expectations and addressing problems when they arise.
  • Build trust with patients by recommending solutions based on their individual needs.

QUALITY & CONSISTENCY — Accurate Attention to Detail

  • Perform your responsibilities accurately and consistently every day.
  • Take pride in getting the details right, whether working with eyewear, patient information, scheduling, products, or clinical testing.
  • Follow established protocols and standards.
  • Take ownership of mistakes and work to resolve problems.
  • Ask questions and seek clarification when something isn't completely understood rather than making assumptions.

EXPERTISE — Be a Lifetime Learner

  • Continually develop your knowledge of optical, dry eye, and ocular health and wellness.
  • Learn the details of your role, including frames, lenses, optical options, scheduling, insurance, products, and patient care.
  • Stay curious and be willing to learn new technology, products, and processes.
  • Become increasingly confident educating patients and answering their questions.
  • Use your growing knowledge to provide patients with an exceptional experience.

TIMELINESS — Prioritize and Follow Through

  • Be physically and mentally present and ready to serve our patients.
  • Understand what is most important and prioritize appropriately in a busy environment.
  • Follow through on responsibilities and commitments.
  • Help keep patients and the office moving efficiently.
  • Take ownership of patient questions, concerns, and requests and make sure they are addressed in a timely manner.

T.E.A.M. MENTALITY — More Than the Minimum

  • Be adaptable and willing to ask, “Where do you need me?”
  • Step in and help when something needs to be done, even when it isn't specifically assigned to you.
  • Bring positive, fun, and friendly energy to the office.
  • Support your teammates and communicate openly.
  • Look for opportunities to solve problems and go beyond the minimum for patients and coworkers.

Consultative Patient Care & Sales

An important part of this position is helping patients make informed purchasing decisions. We expect our opticians to ask good questions, understand the patient's needs, educate them about their options, and confidently recommend appropriate solutions.

This includes frames, lens options and upgrades, dry eye products, eye care supplements, and other products and services we believe may benefit the patient.

We do not believe in high-pressure sales. We believe in educating, advising, and making confident recommendations based on what is best for the patient.

Success means combining excellent patient care with the confidence to recommend solutions that provide genuine value.

Company Description

We are a growing office and each one of our staff members works together as a team. We want another team member that works well in a fast paced environment, can multi-task, and is a people person.
