Position SummaryThe Intern position at Fairlead Integrated provides undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in a professional defense shipbuilding environment. Interns are embedded within an assigned department and contribute to real work that supports Fairlead's mission of delivering quality structures and systems to the United States Navy. This role is designed to reinforce academic learning, develop professional skills, and provide meaningful exposure to the defense industrial base.
Key Responsibilities - Support the assigned department in day-to-day functions and project work aligned with the intern's field of study and Fairlead's operational goals.
- Apply academic knowledge to practical tasks and workplace challenges under the guidance of a supervisor or designated mentor.
- Participate in departmental meetings, briefings, and workflow processes to build familiarity with professional practices in the defense industry.
- Assist with research, analysis, documentation, or operational tasks as directed by the supervising manager.
- Observe and adhere to all applicable company policies, Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) requirements, and site-specific procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and communicate progress to the supervising manager on a regular basis.
- Complete any assigned training, orientation, or onboarding requirements within the designated timeframe.
- Contribute to a respectful and collaborative work environment consistent with Fairlead's values and standards of conduct.

Preferred Qualifications - Prior internship, co-op, volunteer, or work experience in a related field or professional environment.
- Familiarity with defense, shipbuilding, manufacturing, or government contracting environments.
- Experience working in team-based or project-based academic settings.
- Demonstrated leadership through academic clubs, student organizations, or community involvement.
Physical Demands - Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer may be required in office-based assignments.
- Production and industrial assignments may require the ability to stand, walk, and traverse active worksite environments for extended periods.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas, including safety glasses, hard hats, and safety footwear.
- Specific vision and hearing requirements may apply depending on the assigned work environment.
- Occasional light lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required.
