Youth Support Worker – Residential Group Home (Part-Time or Full-Time)

Position Summary

The Youth Support Worker (YSW) plays a critical role in providing safe, structured, and trauma-informed care to youth residing in a licensed residential group home. This position requires professionalism, sound judgment, emotional maturity, and a strong sense of accountability. Youth Support Workers are responsible for supporting daily routines, ensuring safety, documenting observations, and maintaining a respectful and stable environment at all times.

This role may include day, evening, and/or overnight shifts, depending on operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care and supervision to youth in accordance with individualized care plans
  • Maintain a safe, calm, and structured living environment
  • Support daily routines including meals, hygiene, school readiness, appointments, and activities
  • Build appropriate, professional relationships with youth using trauma-informed and strength-based approaches
  • De-escalate challenging behaviours using approved strategies and non-violent crisis intervention techniques
  • Accurately document daily logs, incident reports, and observations in a timely manner
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and ministry/agency guidelines
  • Communicate effectively with management, team members, and external professionals
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established protocols

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience working with youth in residential care, group homes, child welfare, or related settings preferred
  • Post-secondary education in Child & Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology, Diploma in Developmental Service Worker (DSW), Personal Support Worker (PSW), or a related field is an asset
  • Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and composed in high-stress situations
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check (required)
  • Valid First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • CPI / NVCI certification is an asset (training may be provided)

Work Schedule

  • Part-Time and Full-Time opportunities available
  • Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, and awake overnights
  • Flexibility is considered an asset based on operational needs
