Kansas City metro / Jackson County, MO •Hybrid, 2–3 days onsite per week• Contract-to-hire

Lead a multi-site Dell PowerScale modernization for a county government client: deploy new A310-L archive clusters (production and DR), convert the existing back-end network from legacy InfiniBand to a Dell-supported Ethernet fabric, integrate mixed-generation nodes, migrate data from legacy node pools, and SmartFail and assistance in decommissioning. You will also own the client's Dell Data Domain protection estate for a duration. This is client-facing consulting work — you run the kickoff, author the Low-Level Design, execute cutovers, and deliver knowledge transfer and creation of as-built documentation.

Must-Have Requirements (all five)

• Local — you live within commuting distance of Kansas City / Jackson County, MO. No relocation, no remote-only.
• Consulting background — Must have professional services experience at a senior level conducting engagements and creating deliverables; we may ask to see some of your work.
• Dell experience — hands-on production experience with Dell Technologies enterprise storage, delivery tooling, and support processes; must be the senior in the room to guide clients in their compute needs.
• Dell Data Domain and Power Scale clusters—hands-on deployment, replication, retention, and backup integration on Data Domain / Power Protect DD.
• Onsite 2–3 days per week — at the Production and DR data centers, including after-hours maintenance windows.

What You'll Do

• Run kickoff and discovery; execute Dell OCA and HealthCheck to confirm OneFS 9.11+ compatibility for A310-L integration.
• Author the Low-Level Design — back-end conversion, switch and int-a / int-b port design, IP and subnet plan, cutover method, File Pool Policy migration, SmartFail sequencing, and SyncIQ topology — and obtain client sign-off.
• Rack, cable, and configure redundant Dell back-end switches and 4-node A310-L chassis (240TB, 25GbE front-end) at both sites.
• Convert the back-end fabric from InfiniBand to Ethernet, join new nodes into the existing clusters, and validate mixed-node cluster health.
• Migrate data via File Pool Policy and SmartPools, SmartFail legacy nodes with FlexProtect monitoring, and then physically decommission legacy hardware.
• Configure and baseline SyncIQ replication; configure and validate Data Domain replication between production and DR.
• Deliver as-built documentation, administrator knowledge transfer, and formal project close-out.

Required Skills

• Dell PowerScale / Isilon and OneFS 9.x: cluster build, node pools and tiering, SmartPools, SmartConnect, SyncIQ, FlexProtect, SmartFail, mixed-generation integration.
• Dell Data Domain / PowerProtect DD; PowerScale back-end networking (InfiniBand and Ethernet, int-a / int-b redundancy); 25GbE / 100GbE data center Ethernet.
• Live production data migration with minimal disruption; hands-on racking, cabling, and structured decommission; SMB and NFS administration.
• Strong technical writing (LLDs, runbooks, validation reports) and the discipline to route out-of-scope work to a change order.

Preferred

• Dell Specialist / certifications in PowerScale or PowerProtect; public sector or government client experience; archive tiering to backup, ECS, or cloud.
