Job description
Company Description Ensonergy Inc. is an innovative battery technology startup developing next-generation energy storage solutions capable of delivering exceptional power and energy density. Through our proprietary anode and separator technologies, we are redefining battery performance for emerging applications. Our mission is to push the boundaries of energy storage through advanced materials research, cell design innovation, and rapid product development.
Join our fast-paced, collaborative team and help shape the future of battery technology.
Role Description We are seeking a highly motivated Battery Cell Research Scientist to accelerate the development, assembly, testing, and evaluation of advanced lithium-ion battery cells. This role will play a critical part in establishing laboratory capabilities, developing novel cell architectures, and advancing next-generation battery technologies from concept through validation. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and conducting laboratory experiments on electrode materials, electrolytes, and cell designs; assembling and testing coin cells and pouch cells; and analyzing electrochemical performance data to identify performance trends and failure modes. The scientist will design test protocols, maintain detailed experimental records, interpret results using statistical and modeling tools, and prepare technical reports and presentations for internal stakeholders. The role also involves collaborating closely with cross-functional teams in materials development, process engineering, and product development to translate lab-scale findings into scalable manufacturing processes. Additional activities may include overseeing lab equipment, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and staying current with scientific literature and industry developments in battery technology.
Qualifications
• Strong expertise in electrochemistry and battery science, including lithium-ion and next-generation chemistry, cell design, degradation mechanisms, and electrochemical testing for battery performance optimization.
• Hands-on experience in battery cell fabrication and testing including electrode preparation using dosing mixers and small-scale coating systems; design, assembly, and evaluation of coin, split, three-electrode, and single- and multi-layer pouch cells using glovebox and battery cycler systems; laboratory setup and expansion for cell- and pack-level testing; safe handling of battery materials; and development and evaluation of silicon-based anodes, electrolytes, separators, and electrode formulations.
• Proficiency in electrochemical data analysis and material characterization, including statistical analysis, modeling tools, and characterization techniques such as BET, EIS, FTIR, SEM, TGA, XPS, and XRD.
• Strong experimental design, execution, documentation and communication skills, including the ability to plan and conduct experiments, maintain accurate laboratory records, prepare technical reports, and effectively communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Excellent collaboration and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work in cross-disciplinary teams to contribute to project planning and investigate cell performance issues and develop data-driven solutions.
• Experience supporting the selection, procurement, installation, qualification, operation, and maintenance of battery research and testing equipment.
• Relevant qualifications include a Ph.D. in Electrochemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; or M.S. with 3-5 years of lithium-ion battery industry experience.
• Additional beneficial experience includes prior work in industrial battery development, familiarity with scale-up and manufacturing considerations, and knowledge of safety standards and regulatory requirements for energy storage systems.
