Job Summary
Northrop Grumman is seeking an Assembler 2 (Electronics Assembler) to join its Simulation Systems team in Buffalo, NY. This role supports the assembly, inspection, soldering, testing, and repair of advanced electronic and electromechanical assemblies used in aerospace and defense simulation systems.
The ideal candidate will have experience in electronic assembly, soldering, interpreting assembly drawings, and working in a manufacturing environment while maintaining high-quality workmanship and compliance with ESD, FOD, and industry standards.
Position Overview
The Electronics Assembler will perform precision assembly of electronic components and subassemblies using engineering drawings, work instructions, and industry standards. Responsibilities include fine-pitch soldering, circuit card assembly, BGA rework, cable harness fabrication, transformer assembly, inspection, rework, and documentation in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble electronic components using assembly drawings, diagrams, and work instructions.
  • Perform fine-pitch soldering of circuit card assemblies.
  • Perform BGA rework and repair of printed circuit boards.
  • Assemble microelectronics using manual and automated processes.
  • Perform electromechanical assembly.
  • Fabricate and install semi-rigid wire and cable harnesses.
  • Wind and encapsulate transformers.
  • Perform continuity checks on in-process and completed assemblies.
  • Operate production equipment including soldering stations, crimp tools, microscopes, and curing ovens.
  • Inspect completed assemblies for workmanship and compliance with build documentation.
  • Identify defects and perform rework or repairs when required.
  • Record production and quality data in travelers and manufacturing systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and supervisors to resolve production issues.
  • Follow ESD, FOD, safety, and cleanliness standards.
  • Successfully complete required workmanship certification training.

Basic Qualifications
  • 2 years of electronics assembly or manufacturing experience OR
  • Associate degree in Electronics or another technical discipline.
  • Experience with soldering.
  • Experience performing manufacturing or assembly tasks in a production environment.
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 10 pounds.
  • Basic computer skills including:
    • Microsoft Word
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Microsoft Outlook
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • IPC-A-610 Certification.
  • J-STD-001 Certification.
  • Class 2 soldering experience.
  • Experience working under a microscope.
  • Experience assembling miniature electronic components.
  • Strong manual dexterity.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and written work instructions.
  • Experience in a metric-driven manufacturing environment.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Experience supporting aerospace or defense electronics manufacturing.
