Job description

Senior/Staff Product Manager
About Us
Effective AI is building a software factory for complex industries: a system of record for how a business actually works. Most companies have databases, workflow tools, documents, dashboards, and expert operators, but the real model of the business - what things mean, when rules apply, what changes over time, what is company-specific versus industry-standard, and how expert judgment gets applied - lives everywhere and nowhere. Effective turns that operating knowledge into governed systems that humans and agents can trust, extend, and act on.
We are starting with insurance as our first deep domain, bootstrapping from regulations, product specs, filings, manuals, standards, market patterns, existing software behavior, and domain expertise to build reusable industry models. Contextbase is our living model of the domain and our customers, and with program synthesis techniques like RSL: messy insurance logic becomes typed, testable, executable, and inspectable. Customers inherit a governed industry model, specialize it for their products and workflows, and keep that specialization correct as the shared model improves.
We've raised $10 million in seed funding from Lightspeed Ventures & Valor Equity Partners.
What You'll Do
As a Senior/Staff Product Manager, you'll own core product development for a platform serving large insurance carriers with complex, varied workflows. You'll identify the most important user problems, set product direction and priorities, and partner closely with engineering, design, and subject-matter experts to turn complexity into simple, elegant product experiences.
You'll lead discovery, shape intuitive workflows, build prototypes, and write clear product briefs. You'll work directly with expert users to understand their needs and translate them into reusable product capabilities and thoughtful UX/UI.
More specifically, you will:
  • Own product discovery and strategy. Develop a deep understanding of user workflows, define the problems worth solving, and translate them into a clear product vision, priorities, and engineering-ready briefs.
  • Partner closely with users and customers. Learn how expert teams work, test product ideas with them, and use those insights to guide the roadmap while building a coherent, reusable platform.
  • Own complex product requirements. Define intuitive solutions for capabilities such as auth, RBAC, approval workflows, and data governance, balancing user needs, technical constraints, and long-term product strategy.
  • Design simple, elegant experiences for expert users. Our users think in regulatory filings, rate structures, and competitive positioning. You'll partner closely with design and engineering, and exercise strong product-design judgment yourself, to make complex capabilities intuitive for actuaries, underwriters, and product leaders.
  • Exercise strong product judgment. Decide what should become reusable product capability, what should remain customer-specific configuration, and what we should decline to build. Drive multiple product workstreams across design, engineering, and domain experts without losing focus.
Who You Are
  • 5+ years of product management experience. Your most relevant experience is building technical B2B or enterprise products. Experience with complex workflows, data products, infrastructure, security, or analytics is a plus.
  • You use AI coding tools to rapidly prototype workflows, test product ideas, and communicate precisely with engineers. You do not need to be a production engineer, but you should be comfortable building functional prototypes.
  • Strong user and product instincts. You conduct effective discovery, distinguish requests from underlying needs, and turn complex workflows into clear, intuitive product experiences.
  • Strong technical fluency. You reason about auth, APIs, data pipelines, and system architecture, partner effectively with engineers, and make sound product tradeoffs without needing to be the engineer.
  • High agency, fast ramp. You don't wait for a playbook. You've absorbed a complex domain quickly before and customers trusted you within weeks.
Role Details
  • Location: San Francisco, CA
  • Work Model: Hybrid/in-office
  • Compensation: The estimated salary range for this role is $190,000 - $270,000, depending on experience and skill set. In addition to base salary, we offer competitive equity, benefits, and growth opportunities. Final compensation will be determined based on a combination of factors, including experience, qualifications, and location.
Benefits:
  • Flexible PTO
  • Highly competitive salary & meaningful equity
  • Best-in-class medical, dental & vision insurance
  • 401k with up to a 4% company match
  • $1,200 annual learning and development stipend
  • Catered lunches
  • Commuter benefits for Bay Area employees
  • Home office stipend for remote employees
  • Mentorship from experienced founders and access to an elite investor network
  • Team building events & happy hours

  • Backing from top VCs (Lightspeed, Valor)
