Lead Direct Support Professional (Lead DSP)

Edwards Center is looking for a Lead Direct Support Professional (Lead DSP) to support adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) in residential homes. This is a hands-on leadership role where compassion meets responsibility, teamwork meets mentorship, and every day brings a chance to make a real impact.

As a Lead DSP, you’ll be the go-to support for both residents and staff. Your days will be full, meaningful, and varied — no two shifts look the same. You will:

Support Health & Wellness
  • Administer and document medications with precision

  • Keep medical records accurate and organized

  • Accompany residents to appointments and follow through on care plans

  • Maintain clean, safe, and compliant medication areas

Champion Safety
  • Lead emergency drills and follow safety protocols

  • Identify and report hazards quickly

  • Use proper transfer techniques and maintain adaptive equipment

  • Ensure safe transportation and respond calmly in emergencies

Empower Individuals
  • Implement Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and track progress

  • Support daily living skills, personal care, and community engagement

  • Encourage independence, growth, and meaningful participation

  • Collect behavioral data and support intervention plans

Lead With Purpose
  • Serve as the on-site lead when the Residential Manager is away

  • Mentor and support DSPs with positivity and professionalism

  • Communicate clearly with families, staff, and leadership

  • Promote teamwork, morale, and a respectful environment

Keep the Home Running Smoothly
  • Support residents in household tasks and decision-making

  • Assist with meal prep and dietary needs

  • Provide transportation to activities and appointments

  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and petty cash logs

  • Adapt to changing routines, schedules, and needs

Stay Sharp & Compliant
  • Maintain certifications (OIS, CPR, First Aid, BBP)

  • Attend required trainings

  • Follow all HIPAA, abuse reporting, and non-discrimination policies

  • Stay current on Edwards Center policies and Oregon Administrative Rules

What You Bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Experience in I/DD support or residential care (preferred but not required)

  • Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills

  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License + 7 years driving experience

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs frequently and 100 lbs occasionally

  • Physical stamina for walking, bending, and assisting with transfers

  • A calm, compassionate presence — especially in challenging moments

Where You’ll Work
  • Residential homes and community settings

  • Indoor and outdoor environments

  • Occasional exposure to cleaning agents, water, and bodily fluids

  • Situations requiring quick thinking and steady support

Why Join Edwards Center?

Because here, you’re not just clocking in — you’re changing lives. You’re helping adults with disabilities live with dignity, joy, and independence. You’re part of a team that values compassion, collaboration, and growth. And you’re stepping into a leadership role where your voice, your ideas, and your heart matter.
