Job description

NEW WAGE SCALE: $14.00 - $17.50 PER HOUR
Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse, renders nursing care to residents within an assigned unit. Observes and reports symptoms and conditions of residents. Assists with research related to the improvement in nursing care. Assists in administration of routine oral and topical medications as prescribed by physician and notes reactions. Assists in maintaining a physical, social and psychological environment which will be conductive to the best interest and welfare of residents. Performs other duties as assigned by Charge Nurse, Assistant Director of Nursing, Director of Nursing and/or Administrator.
Qualifications
  • Must have successfully completed a course of medication administration
  • Must possess a certificate showing that this course was completed
  • Must possess knowledge of daily hygienic care ofresidents
  • Techniques of transporting, tray service and feeding of residents is also necessary
  • Correct administration and recording of oral medication. Assistance in emergency situations
  • Proper care of equipment and supplies

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Administering oral and topical medication as prescribed by physicians, following state guidelines.
  • Provide suitable environment for residents
  • Administer personal hygienic and therapeutic measures for residents as directed
  • Assisting with diagnostic procedures
  • Keep accurate record of medications given and not given
  • Will record in nurse's notes pertinent information concerning medication
  • Keep nurse in charge informed of all medication which needs to be ordered. Order all medication that require re-ordering
  • Check all medication delivered from pharmacy. Count with pharmacist all controlled substances being delivered
  • Record in Control Substance Record appropriate number
  • At the beginning and end of each shift, count controlled substances with incoming and/or off going Medication Aide
  • Administering first aide during emergencies
  • Do treatments to non-pressure skin wounds. Document all necessary information in residents charts
  • Assist with resident care as needed
  • Assist nursing assistants during meal times as needed
  • Keep charge nurse advised of changes in resident's conditions or personnel problems
  • All other duties as assigned
