The Wealth Management Associate is an entry-level career-track position designed for someone who wants to build a career in financial planning and wealth management but may not yet know exactly where they want to specialize.

You will work across multiple areas of the firm, including financial planning, client service, investments, and operations. Along the way, you will learn how a wealth management firm works from the inside out, develop practical skills, and discover where your strengths and interests can make the biggest impact.

This isn't a position where we expect you to have everything figured out on day one. We expect you to be curious, willing to learn, comfortable jumping in where needed, and ready to GSD (Get Stuff Done).

Over time, our goal is for this position to evolve with you. You may discover that your future is financial planning, advising, operations, investments, client service, or a role we haven't created yet.

ABOUT YOUR ROLE

Your first job is to learn the profession and become a valuable member of the team.

You'll receive exposure to both the planning/advisory and operational sides of wealth management. As your knowledge and experience grow, so will your responsibilities.

Financial Planning & Client Support

You will learn to:

• Use our financial planning software and assist in creating and updating financial plans for new and existing clients.
• Understand GWA's financial planning process and how the different pieces of a client's financial life work together.
• Prepare materials for client review meetings.
• Sit in on client meetings, take notes, prepare follow-up tasks, and assist with client follow-up communication.
• Research financial planning questions and help advisors prepare recommendations.
• Assist with portfolio review preparation and related tasks.
• Coordinate money movement and trades through our systems.
• Provide positive, professional, and responsive service to our clients.
• Attend firm client events and help make them successful.
• As you develop expertise, contribute to educational content through blogs, videos, social media, presentations, or other firm initiatives.

Operations & Account Service

You will also learn to:

• Process new accounts, including preparing, reviewing, and submitting paperwork.
• Process account transfers.
• Handle beneficiary changes and other account maintenance requests.
• Prepare forms, letters, reports, and spreadsheets used to service clients.
• Process client distributions, RMDs, checks, ACH requests, and ACH setup.
• Research and resolve paperwork issues, including NIGOs (Not In Good Order).
• Respond to client questions and research service issues through resolution.
• Maintain accurate and complete information in our client relationship management system.
• Create and manage tasks associated with client and portfolio review processes.
• Document processes and help improve the firm's written systems and procedures.
• Cross-train in other operational functions and provide backup when needed.

Firm & Professional Development

You will:

• Learn the technology and software used throughout the firm.
• Participate in team meetings, training, and continuing education.
• Learn how the different functions of a wealth management firm work together.
• Look for ways to improve processes and make the client experience better.
• Help wherever needed. Some days that may mean working on a financial plan. Other days it may mean solving an account problem, preparing for a client meeting, researching a question, or helping the team get through a busy day.
• Gradually take ownership of responsibilities as your skills and confidence grow.

WHERE CAN THIS POSITION GO?

That's part of what we're going to figure out together.

We don't expect someone early in their career to know exactly what they want to do for the next 30 years. This role is intentionally broad so you can experience different parts of the profession before choosing a direction.

As you develop, the position could grow toward areas such as:

• Financial Planning

• Operations
• Firm Management or Leadership

The goal isn't simply to fill today's job description. The goal is to help you develop into a role that fits your abilities and interests while helping move GWA forward.

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Previous financial-services or securities-industry experience is helpful, but not required. We are open to candidates with approximately 0-5 years of professional experience.

LICENSING & EDUCATION

As your career develops, we expect you to continue your professional education. Depending on the direction your career takes, that may include pursuing advanced designations such as the CFP®, ChFC®, or other relevant credentials.

Candidates with previous industry experience should have a clean U4 and U5 history.

ABOUT ST. JOSEPH

St. Joseph, Missouri, is far enough from Kansas City that it isn't suburbia, but close enough that you can almost smell the BBQ smoke.

St. Joseph offers local restaurants and shops alongside major chains, with Kansas City an easy drive away. And since 2010, St. Joseph has served as the summer training camp home of the Kansas City Chiefs.
