Job description

Dirt Lab is looking for an experienced Residential Dirt Work Equipment Operator to join our crew.

We are specifically looking for someone who has experience working in residential dirt work. Residential work is different from commercial and large-site dirt work, and we need someone who understands the precision, pace, and attention to detail required when working around homes, foundations, utilities, driveways, sidewalks, and tight job sites.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Operating skid steers and mini excavators on residential job sites
  • Performing rough grades, final grades, backfills, pad work, drainage work, and other residential dirt work
  • Working safely and efficiently around homes, foundations, utilities, concrete, and other finished surfaces
  • Reading the job site and understanding how dirt needs to move, drain, and finish
  • Performing daily equipment inspections and helping keep equipment clean and maintained
  • Communicating with the crew about job progress and what still needs to be completed
  • Taking job-site photos and documenting completed work as required
  • Getting out of the machine when the job requires it

This Is NOT a Cab-Only Position

We want to be upfront about this.

Our operators are expected to be part of the crew, not just sit in the machine. There will be times when you need to use hand tools, shovel, rake, clean up a job site, help with groundwork, or perform other manual labor necessary to get the job finished correctly.

If you’re looking for a position where you stay in the cab all day, this probably isn’t the right fit.

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous residential dirt work experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience operating skid steers and mini excavators
  • Experience with residential grading and working in tight spaces
  • Ability to work independently and make good decisions on a job site
  • Attention to detail and respect for customers’ property
  • Willingness to perform manual labor when needed
  • Dependable and able to show up ready to work
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Able to work well as part of a small crew

What We Offer

  • $25–$30/hour, depending on experience
  • Full-time employment
  • Year-round work
  • Opportunities to work in the shop during rain days when job-site conditions prevent us from working
  • A small crew where everyone contributes
  • Quality, well-maintained equipment
  • Opportunity to work for a growing local dirt-work company
