Job description

Description:

The Direct Support Staff provides hands-on support, guidance, and assistance to individuals in accordance with program policies and procedures. This role promotes independence, skill development, and positive participation in community and vocational activities.


  • Assist individuals in performing daily tasks while fostering independence.
  • Provide full assistance to low-functioning consumers, including feeding, toileting, hygiene care, mobility support, and other hands-on daily living needs.
  • Assist individuals with limited feeding and toileting needs; provide support for hygiene, light cleaning, and daily activities as needed.
  • Continually assess vocational, social, communication, and independent living skills.
  • Provide guidance and support to individuals in achieving personal goals.
  • Identify necessary modifications for volunteer or employment activities.
  • Assist individuals in advocating for themselves in the community.
  • Comply with all program policies and procedures.
  • Provide a summary report of each shift worked.
  • Assist individuals in creating their weekly schedules before the end of each week.
  • Report to the Supervisor any needs, problems, or concerns regarding individuals served.
  • Maintain and expand skills relevant to providing high-quality support; obtain and apply all required certifications and trainings.
  • Implement program curriculum as directed.
  • Deliver one-on-one learning experiences to support individuals in achieving IPP objectives.
  • Maintain accurate data regarding each individual’s progress.
  • Participate in individual assessments, planning, and evaluations.
  • Maintain professional appearance and dress appropriately.
  • Serve as a volunteer coach when assigned.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of six months experience working with adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to pass Department of Justice (DOJ) Clearance.
  • Required certifications: First Aid and CPR; TB test clearance.
  • Valid California Driver’s License and car insurance (if driving is required).
  • Ability to perform the functions required by the program.
  • All direct support staff are employees of the agency and not independent contractors (1099).
