Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Mechanic examines heavy equipment and diesel engines to determine nature and extent of damage/malfunction. Repairs and maintains heavy equipment and diesel engines. Operation of various pieces of heavy equipment including roller, shuttle buggy, front-end loader and paver.

JOB DESCRIPTION

​The Diamond B Mechanic examines heavy equipment and diesel engines to determine nature and extent of damage/malfunction. Repairing and maintaining heavy equipment and diesel engines as well as moving /operating of various pieces of heavy equipment are part of the Mechanics scope of work.

The Mechanic is responsible for the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally compliant operation of assigned area. Heavy Equipment and Diesel Repair experience are needed to be successful as a Diamond B Mechanic. The Mechanic must have good dexterity and frequently use one and two hands throughout the work period for the operation and repair of heavy equipment and the lifting and carrying of equipment and tools.

The Diamond B Mechanic maintains all required certifications required by DOT, OSHA and company safety programs. The Mechanic provides outstanding customer service during delivery and pickup operations for project teams. The Mechanic will operate and maintain equipment in a safe manner at all times.

This Work Scope /Job Description are a general description of the basic job function, skills, knowledge and abilities, and the general duties of the position. The Work Scope does not necessarily include all the duties which may be required of a Mechanic.  Work Scopes may be revised as needed.


 JOB DUTIES 

  • Meet with Shop Manager to discuss goals & objectives.
  • Plans work procedure. Prioritize and Execute Daily “TO DOs”.
  • Complete All Necessary Training, Certifications, Etc. Maintains all required certifications required by DOT, OSHA and company safety programs.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance.
  • Trouble shoots equipment problems.
  • Raises equipment/vehicle, with hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units bolted or underside of equipment.
  • Removes unit such transmission or differential
  • Disassembles unit and inspects parts for wear
  • Repairs or replaces parts such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings
  • Overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starts, and pumps
  • Rebuilds parts such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks
  • Rewires ignitions system, lights, and instrument panel 
  • Realigns and adjusts brakes, aligns front end, repairs or replaces shock absorbers, and solders leaks in radiator
  • Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers.
  • Operates and tests machinery.
  • Requisition Parts.
  • Inspect Company Vehicles.
  • Perform General Custodial Work.
  • Clean Up Shop / Work Area.
  • Abides by all of the company’s safety procedures and practices.
  • Drives Lowboy / Gooseneck.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork; timely, accurately & neatly.
  • Bring problems to Supervisor’s attention immediately.
