Job description

The Privacy, Data Governance and AI Counsel, reporting to the SVP, Associate General Counsel, serves as a strategic legal advisor responsible for leading the company's global privacy, data governance, and artificial intelligence legal programs. The role partners cross-functionally to enable business growth while ensuring compliance with applicable privacy, cybersecurity, AI, and data governance laws and regulations.

The ideal candidate is a pragmatic, business-oriented attorney who can translate complex legal requirements into scalable business processes, provide practical risk-based advice, and support the company's innovation in cybersecurity, managed services, and artificial intelligence.

How you'll make an impact

Privacy & Data Protection

  • Advising the business on U.S. and international privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, U.S. state privacy laws, HIPAA (where applicable), and other emerging privacy regulations.

  • Provide legal guidance on the collection, processing, storage, transfer, retention, and deletion of personal information.

  • Review and negotiate privacy and data protection provisions in client, vendor, partner, and technology agreements including privacy impact assessments (PIAs), data protection impact assessments (DIPAs), transfer impact assessments (TIAs) and legitimate interest assessments.

  • Advise on cross-border data transfers and appropriate transfer mechanisms.

  • Draft and maintain privacy notices, consent language, internal policies, and data processing documentation.

  • Support responses to data subject rights requests and regulatory inquiries.

  • Advise and support during the response to a suspected breach or other data privacy incidents, including internal investigations and advising on notification and reporting obligations.

Data Governance

  • Partner with Information Security, IT, and business leaders to mature the company's enterprise data governance framework.

  • Review and develop policies governing data classification, retention, deletion, ownership, stewardship, and acceptable use.

  • Advise on data lifecycle management and information governance initiatives.

  • Support governance of structured and unstructured data across enterprise systems.

  • Provide legal guidance regarding data sharing, data licensing, and commercial use of data assets.

  • Assist with governance surrounding client, employee, and third-party data.

Artificial Intelligence Governance

  • Lead legal support for the company's AI governance program.

  • Advise on the legal and regulatory implications of developing, purchasing, deploying, and using AI technologies.

  • Mature AI policies, standards, governance frameworks, and responsible AI guidance.

  • Review AI-enabled products and internal AI use cases for legal, privacy, intellectual property, regulatory, and ethical considerations.

  • Monitor emerging AI legislation and advise leadership regarding business impacts.

  • Partner across the company to operationalize Ai governance requirements.

  • Review and negotiate contractual provisions addressing AI use, training data, ownership, confidentiality, transparency, and allocation of risk.

  • May be responsible for and manage a global team of attorneys, paralegals, and other legal professionals.

What we're looking for

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

  • 5+ years of legal experience with significant focus on privacy, technology, cybersecurity, and/or data governance.

  • Experience supporting Cybersecurity, SaaS, cloud, or technology organizations.

  • Deep knowledge of:

    • GDPR

    • CCPA/CPRA

    • U.S. state privacy laws

    • Data Processing Agreements

    • Cross-border data transfers

    • Experience negotiating technology and commercial agreements.

    • Experience with cybersecurity incident response.

    • Privacy certifications such as CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, or similar a plus.
