SYSTEMS LIBRARIAN - BISBEE
CLASSIFIED: Position is subject to the provisions of the Merit System Rules pursuant to Arizona Law.
OPENS: Tuesday, August 25, 2026
CLOSES: Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 5 p.m.
ANTICIPATED SALARY: $58,000 to $71,000 annually plus a comprehensive benefits package to include membership in the Arizona State Retirement System.
PLEASE NOTE: All positions at Cochise County require a pre-employment background screening.
NATURE OF WORK: Under general supervision by the Library District Director, performs professional library work of considerable difficulty in managing the daily operations of the countywide integrated online system and the wide-area network; performs related work as assigned.
Essential Functions
As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class.
TYPICAL DUTIES: (Illustrative Only)Manages the countywide online library system for seven independent city libraries and five branches; serves as the primary contact for participating libraries with the system vendor and telecommunications agencies on hardware and software issues; troubleshoots telecommunications network and hardware problems reported by libraries and arranges for efficient solutions; finds, evaluates, and recommends new technologies and designs implementation processes; maintains system logs, runs backups, and installs system patches and upgrades; runs technical reports that maintain databases; supports system security with firewall and user accounts; recommends system enhancements; maintains and develops library district website, web catalog, online databases and services; serves as liaison with State Library and vendors of online databases and services, including but not limited to eBooks and digital audiobooks; responsible for PC hardware and software installation, maintenance, upgrades, and support, both for public and staff; maintains a content filtering solution for public computer use; installs, maintains and troubleshoots Wi-Fi at branch library locations; maintains CCLD holdings listed in OCLC Worldshare ILL system; participates in the planning and implementation of library goals and objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
A Master's degree in Library and Information Science or Library Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association, or a Master's degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education; three (3) years of experience supporting integrated library systems, including hardware, software, and network troubleshooting; must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license and the ability to be covered by county insurance.
An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Preference may be given to candidates with Sirsi Symphony/Enterprise experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Extensive knowledge of:
  • structure and operation of integrated library systems, preferably Sirsi Symphony and Enterprise systems.

Considerable knowledge of:
  • structure and operation of telecommunications equipment and wide area networks (TCP/IP protocol);
  • Windows operating system and configuration;
  • Website design, including HTML, CSS, and Javascript;
  • OCLC and MARC record format;
  • emerging technologies and innovative approaches to library service;
  • professional library principles, methods, and standards.

Considerable skill in:
  • communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing;
  • troubleshooting network hardware and software;
  • performing research, compiling and analyzing data, and preparing reports.

Ability to:
  • prioritize, plan, and organize work;
  • form effective working relationships with other employees, branch and city librarians, other library automation professionals, and vendors;
  • efficiently handle paperwork, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure;
  • recognize and learn new ways for automation to support library staff and users
  • provide technology training and coaching for staff and library users of all skill levels;
  • read, write, and speak English.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily performed under general supervision. Incumbent generally performs work in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Essential functions of this position require: lifting up to 20 pounds, manual dexterity, large motor skills, ability to communicate.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force; frequently lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds; requires a good deal of walking and standing; involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls.
Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details and verbal instructions, requires emotional stability, critical thinking, and adaptability; creative problem-solving skills are important.
