Position Summary:
The Human Resources Manager provides hands-on HR leadership and operational support to DAWN staff, ensuring compliance with employment laws, fostering a respectful and professional workplace culture, and supporting managers through the employee lifecycle. This role partners closely with leadership to address employee relations, performance management, policy development, and training needs while advancing DAWN's mission and values. The HR Manager serves as a trusted resource for staff and leadership, helping create systems and practices that support a healthy,equitable, and effective workplace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Human Resources Operations
  • Provide day-to-day HR support to staff and supervisors.
  • Handle employee grievances and support conflict resolution in alignment with DAWN policies.
  • Guide managers through documentation and corrective action.
  • Support navigation of leave requests (medical, family, and other protected leaves), PTO, and related compliance.
  • Assistwith annual performance evaluation processes and provide guidance on goal setting and feedback.
  • Conduct personnel actions that may include investigations, performance improvement plans, and terminations as needed.

Policies, Compliance & Best Practices
  • Review, update, and help implement personnel policies and employee handbook content.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Provide training to staff on professional workplace decorum, agency policies, and HR-related topics during staff meetings orin-service days.
  • Support leadership with risk management and HR compliance initiatives.

Training & Staff Development
  • Design and delivertrainingsrelated to workplace conduct, anti-harassment, DEI practices, and HR procedures.
  • Support and improve onboarding processes and orientation for new employees.
  • Partner with leadership to strengthen supervisory practices and staff engagement.

Other Duties
  • Lead orassistwith various HR-related projects as assigned.
  • Maintain confidential personnel files and HR documentation.
  • Support organizational initiatives related to culture, retention, and staff wellbeing.
  • Work with managers to create Job Descriptions and manage hiring process.
  • Lead research on job leveling, pay structure, market pricing and coordinate with Executive Director and Director of Finance onimplementation.

Projects & Administrative Support
  • Lead or assist with various HR-related projects as assigned.
  • Maintain confidential personnel files and HR documentation.
  • Support organizational initiatives related to culture, retention, and staff wellbeing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong working knowledge of HR best practices and employment law.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); HRIS experiencea plus.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred (equivalent experience considered).
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive HR experience required.
  • Experience supporting employee relations, disciplinary processes, and performance management.
  • Prior experience in nonprofit or human services environments strongly preferred.

Work Environment & Requirements
  • This is a hybrid position, with admin office based in Kent, WA (16-20 hours per week).
  • Must be able to pass a Washington State background check.
