Software Design Engineer III - AI-Driven Architecture | San Diego, CA (Onsite, Secret Clearance Required)
About the Role
Join a high-impact Architecture Team as a Software Design Engineer III, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of advanced software solutions for mission-critical government and defense projects. Leverage your expertise in full stack development, AI integration, and leadership to drive innovation and make a tangible difference. This is an onsite position located in San Diego, CA, with no telework permitted. A Secret clearance is required to start.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate a team of 20+ software developers in designing, developing, and deploying robust software systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Systems Engineering, Test Engineering, and Project Management to align architecture with business and mission objectives
- Research, prototype, and document cutting-edge web architectures, systems interfaces, and user interfaces
- Drive adoption of AI technologies within the Software Development Lifecycle to enhance team productivity and project outcomes
- Oversee the development of comprehensive administrator and user documentation, including manuals and installation guides
- Support system integration, testing, troubleshooting, and successful fielding of solutions
- Engage in customer meetings, technical interchange sessions, and provide clear project briefings and updates
- Mentor and guide less experienced staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement
- Manage project schedules, performance objectives, and risk reporting to ensure successful project delivery
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, or Engineering Management
- 5+ years of hands-on senior software engineering experience with a strong background in full stack development
- Proven leadership capabilities in managing software engineering teams and conducting code peer reviews
- Demonstrated success in designing, deploying, and maintaining production software systems
- Expertise in utilizing AI tools and methodologies within the software development lifecycle
- Mastery of diverse architecture styles and Model-Based Engineering (MBE)
- Strong proficiency in UML and SysML modeling
- Experience defining and maintaining implementation schedules for driving performance and results
- Ability to interact effectively with project management and technical stakeholders, providing regular progress and risk reports
- Must have an active Secret clearance and the ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with MBSE tools (preferably Cameo/NoMagic) and database management software
- Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD)
- Advanced knowledge of digital engineering environments
