JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Shift Manager

Department: Dancing Eagle Travel Center

Employment Classification: Non-Exempt

Position Summary/General Description: 

The Shift Manager will assist the Store Manager in managing the day-to-day operations of the convenience 

store to include store performance, control of cash, budget, inventory, security, customer service, and 

management of staff. 

Expectations:

 Act as a role model within and outside the corporation.

 Maintain a positive and respectful attitude toward customers and co-workers.

 Consistently report to work on time prepared to perform duties of position.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

 Focus on positive customer service/satisfaction experience and ensure that employees provide 

customers with superior customer service through use of best practices and communication of the 

importance of superior customer service.

 Responsible for receipt, inspection and verification of cost on equipment and/or goods for quality, 

quantity and comparing such items against appropriate ordering/receiving documents with the 

ability to configure proper gross margins. 

 Track, analyze and take action to improve store performance by forecasting of weekly/daily sales 

goals and meeting or exceeding established goals. Communicate sales goals, department 

performance and sales opportunities to ensure positive results.

 Monitor product display accuracy and appearance to implement promotions ensuring presentation, 

pricing and signage are properly displayed and presented according to established practices and 

plans and ordered in a manner to maintain in-stock conditions.

 Support Store Manager with development and direction in the execution of strategies to improve 

product placement and appearance.

 Ensure that compliance with all federal, state, local agency, company policies and procedures are 

properly followed, including, security, safety, food handling and sanitation, weights and measures, 

refrigeration, wage and hour, etc.

 Build relationships and loyalty with guests through sincere and meaningful interactions (e.g., learn 

guests’ names and preferences; connect with them individually and professionally; smile; make eye 

contact and verbally greet guests). Serves as a role model to store personnel. 

 Make recommendation for hiring, discipline, coaching/developing and retaining of store personnel 

including the completion of documentation. Assist in the training of store personnel

 Responsible for maintaining stock levels, product freshness, pricing accuracy and food safety in all 

departments. 

 Ensure compliance of store personnel with policies and procedures. 

 Assists customers and responds to customer’s complaints or inquiries.

 Accurately completes daily reports and reviews daily close reports.

 Is responsible for accuracy and integrity of inventory.

 Responsible for daily bank deposits, requisitioning change orders and ATM funds, loading safe, 

ATM, etc.

 Plan, prepare, and post store personnel work schedules. Responsible for daily timecard edits and 

verifying the accuracy of hours worked.

 Direct supervision of all shifts.

 Responsible for merchandising the store according to company guidelines.

 Be a team player (e.g., work toward team goals and foster a collaborative and positive work 

environment; put the team first; assist coworkers; treat all coworkers with kindness, courtesy and 

respect; never engage in negativity; maintain openness to coaching, learning and improving; 

receptive to change and willingness to embrace challenges with team-spirit).

 Develop a thorough knowledge of services, amenities, surroundings (e.g., RV Park, restaurants, 

retail stores, etc.), providing accurate directions, and information for guest inquiries about 

promotions and special events. 

 Identify areas for improvement and cost control by implementing action plans and procedures to 

address issues

 Forecast, create schedule, and monitor labor to be consistent with store sales, productivity 

guidelines and wage budgets; create action plan to address cost control issues.

 Ensure cashier accountability, scanning accuracy and adherence to company security and cash 

control procedures.

 Monitor all vendors to ensure proper adherence to our standards

 Ensure store appearance is maintained to company standards

 Actively participates in LDC Management Capacity Program. 

 Attend Supervisor Development Leadership program annually. 

 Work under pressure; maintain regular and punctual attendance including working odd or unusual 

hours, weekends and holidays. 

 Perform additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned.

Education & Experience:

 High School Diploma or GED preferred. 

 2-3 years relevant experience and demonstrated ability to lead.

Licensing & Certification:

 None.

Computer Equipment, Software, Machinery:

 Proficient in basic computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

 Proficient in basic office equipment (e.g., multi-line phone system, computer, copy/fax machine).

Essential Physical Requirements: 

 This job requires the ability to bend over, hear, kneel, stand, talk, walk, turn/twist, and repetitively 

use hands 50-100% of the time. 

 The job requires the ability to push/pull 1-50+ lbs., carry/lift 1-50 lbs. 51-100% of the time. 

 The job requires the ability to crouch/stoop, reach overhead, sit, lift 1-50+ lbs., 

slide/transfer 1-50+ lbs. 25-50% of the time.

 The job requires the ability to problem solve, organize, plan, make decisions, interpret data, write 

and read 51-100% of the time. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 Recommend: hire, promotion, discipline, and termination. 

 Compensate, train, schedule, apportion work among others, direct (determining work techniques, 

equipment, materials), appraise productivity, measure performance and plan budgets for work.

Work Environment (inside/outside):

 The job is performed indoors with exposure to load noises, and occasion exposure to cold 

temperatures and confined areas. 

Other Requirements:

 Applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment alcohol/drug screening including background 

check.

 Obtain Serv-Safe Certification within ninety days from date of hire and/or transfer
