Position Summary

TheProfessorofTranslationprovides academic leadership and instruction within theBible & Translation programs at Dallas International University (DIU). This faculty member contributes to the preparation of global leaders who partner with local communities by equipping students to engage in translation advising, Scripture engagement, and multicultural teamwork in nations around the world.

TheProfessorofTranslationteaches undergraduate and graduate courses, mentors students in research and fieldwork, mentors and oversees relevant associate instructors teaching DIU’s curriculum in other languages, and contributes to curriculum development and academic quality aligned with DIU’s mission and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities ii

• Teach courses intranslation advising, translationprinciples and theory, and translation practice at undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Guide students in research, thesis development, and appliedtranslationprojects.
• Oversee Associate Instructors assisting with course delivery in other languages for courses taught by this faculty member.
• Integrate linguistic, exegetical, and cultural considerations into course delivery and assessment.
• Participate in curriculum review and development to ensure alignment with program learning outcomes.
• Contribute to institutional service through committee work, faculty meetings, and academic advising.
• Engage in scholarly activity intranslationstudies, applied linguistics, or related fields.
• Maintain collaboration withtranslationorganizations and field practitioners to enhance program relevance.
• Uphold DIU’s doctrinal statement and actively support its mission to prepare global leaders to partner with local communities.

Communication

• Attends departmental meetings as required by the department chair.
• Attends Inservice twice a year and Faculty/Staff forum once per month (required).
• Communicates professionally with students and colleagues.
• Communicates with bilingual associate instructors in multiple nations.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Translation Studies, Applied Linguistics, Biblical Studies, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated experience in translation (e.g., Bible, literary, or cross-cultural translation) and/or translator training.
• Prior teaching experience in higher education strongly preferred.
• Understanding of linguistic and cultural dimensions of meaning transfer.
• Ability to mentor students and Associate Instructors from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
• Commitment to academic excellence and collaborative learning.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  

Rank

Appointment rank (Assistant, Associate, or FullProfessor) will be determined based on academic qualifications, teaching experience, and scholarly record in accordance with DIU’s Faculty Appointment and Evaluation Policy.

Hours

• Regular office hours are 8:00–5:00 Monday through Friday. Overseeing teaching in other countries can require travel, early mornings, or late evenings as needed.
• Moderate travel is required for teaching intensives in other countries and collaborating with Associate Instructors.

Physical Requirements

Good physical health is required, especially for international travel.
