Daily Docket Café is looking for a friendly, dependable, and energetic Café Team Member to support our cashier, retail, beverage, and food-service operations. This is a hands-on, cross-functional position for someone who enjoys helping guests, staying active, and working as part of a team.
Café Team Members begin with a primary focus on cashier and guest-service responsibilities and are expected to cross-train in barista and kitchen positions. Team members may rotate between workstations based on business needs, scheduling, and training progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome guests promptly and provide friendly, helpful service.
- Accurately enter kitchen, beverage, and retail orders into the point-of-sale system.
- Process cash, credit card, and other approved payment transactions responsibly.
- Maintain an accurate cash drawer and follow all cash-handling procedures.
- Answer guest questions and assist with menu selections and retail purchases.
- Run prepared food from the kitchen and beverages from the barista station to guests after payment.
- Maintain awareness of guests throughout the café and respond promptly to service needs.
- Stock and restock retail merchandise, drip coffee supplies, condiments, beverages, and service-area items.
- Properly label, date, store, organize, and rotate products using FIFO procedures.
- Inspect products for freshness, quality, proper temperature, and expiration dates.
- Maintain attractive, organized, and fully stocked retail and food-display areas.
- Assist with receiving, inspecting, organizing, and putting away vendor deliveries.
- Store delivered products promptly in the appropriate retail, dry-storage, refrigerated, or frozen areas.
- Operate assigned front-of-house and beverage equipment safely and properly, including:
- Point-of-sale systems
- Coffee grinders
- Drip coffee machines
- Ice machines
- Water-dispensing machines
- Coolers
- Retail standing coolers
- Cold display tables
- Hot display tables
- Monitor equipment and product temperatures as required.
- Report damaged, unsafe, or malfunctioning equipment to management.
- Complete all assigned opening, closing, and running side-work checklists.
- Maintain clean and organized guest, retail, beverage, and service areas.
- Clean and sanitize equipment, counters, display areas, coolers, and service stations according to company procedures.
- Complete routine and deep-cleaning assignments, including trash removal.
- Follow food-safety, sanitation, cash-handling, and workplace-safety procedures.
- Communicate effectively with the kitchen, barista, and management teams.
- Participate in cross-training for barista and kitchen duties.
- Rotate between cashier, retail, barista, food-running, and kitchen-support positions as assigned.
- Perform other reasonable duties necessary to support café operations.
Qualifications
- Previous cashier, restaurant, café, retail, or customer-service experience is preferred but not required.
- Friendly and professional communication skills.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to learn multiple positions and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to accuracy, cleanliness, product quality, and guest service.
- Ability to follow written checklists, recipes, procedures, and manager instructions.
- Comfortable handling cash and using a point-of-sale system.
- Ability to safely operate beverage, retail, refrigeration, and food-display equipment.
- Ability and willingness to receive, organize, stock, and rotate products.
- Must be willing to work as part of a shared team rather than remain at one assigned station.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Food Handler Certificate that meets all applicable state and local requirements.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, reach, lift, carry, push, pull, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Safely lift and carry supplies, products, trash, food, and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Assist with moving and putting away vendor deliveries.
- Work around hot food, hot beverages, refrigerated equipment, kitchen equipment, and cleaning products.
- Maintain an active pace throughout the scheduled shift.
Compensation and Tips
The hourly pay range for this position is $14.00–$16.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
Eligible team members participate in a shared tip pool with other qualified café employees. Tips are distributed according to the company’s tip-pool policy and hours worked. Tip amounts are not guaranteed and may vary based on sales and guest participation.
