Position Summary
DuraFleet is looking for an experienced Lead Mobile Diesel Technician to provide maintenance and repair services for commercial fleet customers throughout the Charleston metro. This is an opportunity to help build a new territory backed by an established and expanding mobile fleet service brand. The ideal candidate is a skilled, dependable technician who can diagnose problems accurately, complete quality repairs in the field, communicate professionally with customers, and document work thoroughly.
Charleston's industrial base - the Port, the I-26 corridor, the manufacturing and distribution operations stacked along I-526 - runs on diesel equipment that can't afford downtime. DuraFleet exists to fix that: fast, honest, professional mobile service that keeps fleets moving. We're building a reputation on fairness and 5-star service, not on flat-rate games or upsells. The person we hire for this role sets that tone from day one.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-on technical work:
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on commercial fleet vehicles
• Diagnose diesel engine, electrical, brake, steering, suspension, drivetrain, and related system concerns
• Use diagnostic equipment, multimeters, service information, and sound troubleshooting practices across light-, medium-, and heavy-duty equipment
• Complete mobile repairs at customer facilities, fleet yards, and roadside locations throughout the Charleston metro
• Conduct thorough vehicle inspections and flag safety or maintenance concerns before they become breakdowns
• Maintain accurate digital work orders - labor, parts, notes, inspections, and photos
• Keep your service vehicle, tools, and equipment organized and road-ready
As the Charleston operation grows:
• Help establish strong service standards for future DuraFleet Charleston technicians
• May participate in interviewing and evaluating candidates as DuraFleet hires additional technicians
• May mentor and train other technicians on diagnostics, repair quality, and customer communication
• Coordinate with the Business Owner on parts, approvals, pricing conversations, and job planning
• Represent DuraFleet professionally with fleet customers - clear communication, honest recommendations, no surprises
• Deliver excellent customer service on every call, every time - this is how DuraFleet builds its reputation
Required Qualifications
• At least three years of commercial vehicle, diesel, fleet, or heavy-equipment maintenance experience
• Strong independent diagnostic and mechanical troubleshooting ability - comfortable being the only technician on site
• Experience with preventive maintenance, electrical systems, brakes, steering, and suspension across a range of equipment, from light-duty up to heavy-duty
• Confidence with electronic diagnostic tools and OEM/aftermarket service software
• Ability to complete accurate digital documentation using cloud-based service systems
• Professional communication and customer service skills - you're often the only DuraFleet representative a customer sees
• Valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable under company insurance requirements
• Ability to travel throughout the Charleston metro service area
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation
• A suitable place to park and secure a company service truck at your residence
Plus Qualifications
• ASE Medium/Heavy Truck certifications
• Class A or B Commercial Driver's License
• Qualified commercial vehicle or brake inspector credentials
• Experience with air brakes, trailers, hydraulics, liftgates, welding, or fabrication
• Experience with Shop Monkey or similar fleet maintenance/shop-management software
• EPA refrigerant certification for servicing reefer/transport refrigeration units
• Prior experience mentoring, training, or leading other technicians
• Previous mobile service or roadside repair experience
What Success Looks Like
• Vehicles are diagnosed accurately and repaired correctly the first time
• Customers consistently rate DuraFleet 5 stars and call us before they call anyone else
• Work orders are complete, timely, and well documented
• Safety requirements and service procedures are consistently followed
• Customer downtime is reduced, visit after visit
Your Service Truck
You'll be assigned a fully equipped DuraFleet mobile service truck, which you keep at your home between shifts. You start and end your workday from home rather than commuting to a shop first - the truck is your rolling workspace for the territory.
Work Environment
This is a field-based position serving the Charleston metro and surrounding market - customer facilities, distribution centers, fleet yards, roadside locations, and other commercial operating environments. Occasional schedule flexibility may be needed for urgent customer service requests.
Why Join DuraFleet
DuraFleet is backed by an established, expanding mobile fleet service brand, opening a new territory in one of Charleston's most active industrial and logistics corridors. Charleston's fleet and logistics scene is only getting busier, and DuraFleet intends to be the name every fleet manager in the metro trusts first. You'll help build that reputation from the start. If you're tired of flat-rate pressure, shop politics, or being just another number, this is a chance to help build something fair, professional, and genuinely good - and to be rewarded for it.
DuraFleet is an equal opportunity employer. Employment decisions are based on qualifications, experience, performance, and business needs.
