Job description

A well-established 18 year technology services firm in the Reno/Sparks area is looking for an experienced IT Support Engineer / Network Technician to support a variety of local business clients.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on troubleshooting, working directly with end users, and supporting real business environments rather than doing the same narrow task every day. Our clients are primarily small to mid-sized professional offices, usually with 10–25 users, and the work includes a mix of onsite service, remote support, systems administration, and network troubleshooting.

Position Overview

The role involves supporting client workstations, servers, Microsoft 365 environments, firewalls, wireless networks, business applications, backups, and day-to-day technical issues. You should be comfortable working independently, communicating clearly with non-technical users, and following through on service requests from start to finish.

This is a full-time position with a stable local company and a small-team environment.

Important: This is a local Reno/Sparks-area position requiring regular onsite client visits. Please do not apply if you currently live outside the Reno/Sparks area or are not already within daily commuting distance. We are planning to fill this position within the next two weeks.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

  • Troubleshoot Windows desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, email issues, and general user problems
  • Support Microsoft 365, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and user account administration
  • Configure and deploy desktops, laptops, servers, network equipment, and office technology
  • Support small-business networks, including firewalls, switches, wireless access points, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, and internet connectivity
  • Assist with Windows Server, Active Directory, file permissions, shared folders, group policies, and basic server maintenance
  • Perform onsite service calls for clients throughout the Reno/Sparks area
  • Provide remote support using remote access and monitoring tools
  • Work with third-party software vendors to resolve client application issues
  • Help maintain backups, endpoint protection, patching, documentation, and general system security
  • Set up new employees, computers, email accounts, phones, printers, and related office equipment
  • Document work performed, client environments, passwords/processes where appropriate, and recommended follow-up items
  • Participate in occasional after-hours maintenance windows or urgent support needs

Required Qualifications

The right candidate should have:

  • 3+ years of hands-on IT support, systems administration, network administration, or managed services experience
  • Strong Windows desktop and laptop troubleshooting skills
  • Experience administering Microsoft 365 users, mailboxes, groups, licensing, and common Outlook issues
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls, Wi-Fi, switching, and basic routing
  • Experience supporting users both remotely and onsite
  • Ability to communicate professionally with business owners, office managers, and staff
  • Reliable transportation for local client visits
  • Strong follow-through, organization, and documentation habits
  • Ability to manage multiple issues without losing track of details
  • Practical troubleshooting ability and good judgment about when to escalate

Helpful Additional Experience

The following experience is helpful but not required:

  • Managed service provider, consulting, or outsourced IT support background
  • SonicWall, UniFi, Ubiquiti, EdgeRouter, Fortinet, Meraki, or similar network equipment
  • Dell, HP, Lenovo, or server/workstation deployment experience
  • Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, file shares, permissions, and backups
  • Remote monitoring, remote support tools, ticketing systems, endpoint protection, and backup platforms
  • VoIP phone systems and basic cabling knowledge
  • Supporting accounting, healthcare, legal, construction, or other line-of-business applications
  • SQL Server, Oracle Database, or other database administration exposure
  • VMware, Hyper-V, NAS/SAN storage, or virtualization experience
  • Basic scripting experience with PowerShell, batch files, or automation tools
  • Vendor coordination for software, internet, telecom, copier/scanner, or hosted application support

Benefits

  • Paid vacation
  • Paid holidays
  • Full-time, Monday through Friday schedule
  • Local client base
  • Mix of onsite and remote work
  • Small team environment with variety in the day-to-day work

Schedule

This is a full-time Monday through Friday position. Occasional after-hours work may be needed for scheduled maintenance, client projects, or urgent issues that cannot wait until the next business day.

Work Environment

This role is best suited for someone who is organized, self-managed their schedule and likes variety and is comfortable moving between different types of technical problems. One day may involve resolving a VPN issue, the next may involve setting up a workstation, fixing a Microsoft 365 problem, troubleshooting Wi-Fi, working with a software vendor, or helping a business get back online.

We are looking for someone dependable, practical, professional, and comfortable taking ownership of technical issues.
