Job description

The Thermal Engineer is responsible for preliminary Engineering prior to products sold. This position will provide the Sales team with a technical quote review to assist in the estimated costs of future jobs sold.Thermal Design Responsibilities Include:Sizing of shell & tube heat exchangers capable of meeting the customer’s process conditions.Verifying customer proposed designs to optimize flow velocities, fouling, and vibration free designs.Coordinating with ENC or Refinery’s Process Engineer to gather additional data when required.Proposing alternate designs that may ease fabrication or reduce end user costs when needed.Mechanical Rating Responsibilities Include:Review customer provided RFQ packages to ensure the quote falls within the scope of Cust-O-Fab’s abilities.Reviewing and noting Customer required specifications that may increase fabrication/testing time or cost.Providing a “Run Sheet” developed from in-house software that provides sales with material and fabrication time estimates, as well as any additional requirements found during review of RFQ.When necessary, working with Engineering and Shop Management to verify potential design/fabrication issues.Provides the first line of technical support to entire sales team during the quoting stagesKnowledge, skills and abilitiesBachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related technical field from an accredited university or equivalent industry related supervisory experience.15 years Thermal Engineering experience in custom shell and tube heat exchanger design & fabrication industry.Strong knowledge of ASME VIII Div. 1 design & construction, TEMA, and other industry standards (API, PIP, Engineering Practices, etc.).Ability to communicate technical requirements to Sales team during the quote stages.Proficiency in the following tools: HTRI, Microsoft OfficeKnowledge of RCS or COMPRESS software a plus.Physical requirementsMust be able to sit, lift, stand, push, and pull up to 20 pounds; works primarily in a climate-controlled environment.
