Job description

Summary Responsible for the enforcement of New Mexico Statutes Annotated and Curry County ordinances protection of life and property; conservation of the peace with commission to apprehend arrest and bring before the proper court all violators within the County of Curry and performing other duties imposed by law. Duties include but not limited to conducting criminal and crash investigations; serving civil and criminal process; conflict resolution; preserving the peace; arresting and incarcerating violators of the law; provide testimony in County and district courts in traffic criminal and civil cases. Prepare a variety of documents and reports.  
Minimum Qualifications

โ€ขHigh School diploma or GED certificate required.

โ€ขMust be twenty-one (21) years of age or older. 
โ€ขMust be able to be certified by the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy and pass physical testing as a Peace Officer within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
โ€ข Knowledge of pertinent federal; state; and county laws and policies preferred. Education or experience in interpersonal communications will be helpful by not required.
โ€ขAbility to write intelligible and complete reports and deal with situations required tact; understanding and good judgement; remain alert at all times and respond quickly in emergency situations; establish good working relationships with prisoners; courts; general public and other staff members.
โ€ขAbility to listen; understand and communicate verbally and in writing in English.
โ€ขAbility to work independently of daily supervision and to exercise discretionary judgment and thinking.
โ€ขVision correctable to 20/20.
โ€ขMust successfully complete pre-employment drug screen; pre-employment screening and background check;
โ€ขMust have a valid driverโ€™s license with no more than two (2) moving violations in the past three (3) years. Must obtain a valid New Mexico driverโ€™s license within six (6) months of employment. Must complete a National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course within first year of hire.
โ€ขMust be able to qualify and maintain proficiency with firearms for both day and night.
โ€ขAbility to perform all essential duties as listed on job description.
โ€ขAbility to perform the essential duties in the working conditions described on job description.
โ€ขAbility to work with the equipment; tools and materials listed on job description.
โ€ขMust comply with safety guidelines and policies of the County.


REQUIREMENT

Must be physically fit and able to pass a physical agility test.
