Position Summary
Theย Lighting Specialist IIย is responsible for evaluating, designing, and supportingย NEC-compliant lighting solutionsย forย residential, commercial, industrial, athletic field, and interstate lighting projects. This role partners closely with sales teams, engineers, vendors, contractors, and utility stakeholders to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective lighting designs from concept through construction.
The ideal candidate has strong expertise inย lighting design, NEC code compliance, photometrics, and electrical calculations, along with hands-on field experience and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
Internal Partner & Vendor Collaboration
- Collaborate withย Lighting Services Sales,ย Lighting Construction Coordinators,ย NESC engineers,ย APC Power Delivery partners,ย ALDOT, outside engineering firms, architects, lighting vendors, and contractors
- Support development ofย pricing estimates, design prints, and material listsย following successful sales
Lighting Design & Engineering
- Create customizedย lighting plansย that meet aesthetic and functional requirements based onย photometric layouts
- Design NEC-compliant electrical service for lighting installations
- Performย voltage drop calculations, wire sizing, breaker/fuse loading in accordance withย NEC requirements
- Work under the direction ofย APC Master Electriciansย as required
Product Selection & Technology
- Partner with Sales and vendors to recommend and specifyย lighting fixtures, lamps, controls, and smart lighting systems
- Stay current onย lighting technologies, controls, automation, and industry trends
- Evaluate and recommend new lighting products for project use
Compliance, Documentation & Budget
- Ensure lighting designs comply withย NEC, energy codes, safety standards, and accessibility requirements
- Developย cost estimatesย and work within budget constraints
- Create detailedย lighting plans, technical drawings, specifications, and documentationย for construction and installation
Site Visits & Field Support
- Conductย on-site evaluationsย for new installations, retrofits, or renovations
- Assess existing lighting conditions and gather field data
- Collaborate with electrical engineers, contractors, and installers to ensure smooth implementation
Required Qualifications
- Journeyman Electrician License โ State of Alabama (Required)
- Experience inย lighting design and implementationย (residential, commercial, industrial, athletic field, or roadway lighting)
- Comprehensive knowledge of the NEC code book
- Strong understanding of lighting principles, photometrics, and electrical calculations
- Ability to perform voltage drop, conductor sizing, and circuit protection calculations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience withย interstate or roadway lighting
- Familiarity withย smart lighting systems, automation, and controls
- Proficiency withย AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar design tools
- Experience working in aย utility or power delivery environment
