Job description

Department: Equalization

Affiliation: Non-Union

FLSA Status: Exempt

Wage Grade: Rye -17


General Summary:

Under the supervision of the County Administrator, manages department staff which includes staffing decisions, budget preparation, training, and supervision. Directs surveys of assessments and provides the Board of Commissioners with the information necessary to adopt the annual county equalization in accordance with applicable Michigan general property tax law and communicates these findings to the various taxing jurisdictions as it affects taxable values and millage rates. Conducts studies and related analysis of the six classes of real and personal property to ensure proper equalization of property value throughout the county.

Employment Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in business or a related field with coursework in property appraisal, assessment administration, accounting and management

Experience: Five years of progressively more responsible experience in appraising all types of property. Prefer some supervisory/administrative experience.

Other Requirements:

  1. MMAO (4) certification from the State Tax Commission. Possession of a Personal Property Examiner Certificate.
  2. Possession of a valid Driver’s License.
