Job description

Lake Geneva Country Meats is looking for a dependable Meat Cutter to join our production team.

This position will help cut meat across all areas of our business (custom processing, retail meat counter, and sausage production), with a particular focus on retail cuts.

Meat-cutting experience is an advantage, but we are willing to train someone with basic knife skills who works well with their hands, is comfortable in a physical work environment, and wants to learn the meat-cutting trade.

This is a full-time, Tuesday - Saturday position. We are looking for someone who shows up reliably, works hard, takes pride in doing things correctly, and enjoys being part of a team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Use knives and meat processing equipment to cut, trim, bone, and prepare meat.
  • Learn how to fabricate beef, pork, lamb, and other products to LGCM standards.
  • Assist with grinding and other meat processing tasks.
  • Check products for quality and accuracy.
  • Follow food safety and USDA requirements.
  • Keep work areas, tools, and equipment clean and sanitary.
  • Help the team complete the day's production efficiently and correctly.

Qualifications

  • Some experience using knives in a work environment is preferred.
  • Meat cutting experience is helpful, but not required.
  • Willingness and ability to learn meat cutting techniques.
  • Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow instructions and pay attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team.
  • Comfortable performing physical, hands-on work throughout the day.

Work Environment

This position works primarily on our meat processing floor and regularly moves between the cutting room, coolers, and freezers.

Because we are a whole-animal butcher shop, employees in this position work around animal carcasses, raw meat, blood, and other normal parts of meat processing.

Physical Requirements

Employees in this position must be able to:

  • Lift up to 80 pounds.
  • Stand and move on a hard floor throughout the workday.
  • Safely use knives and meat processing equipment.
  • Reach products and equipment up to seven feet high with the use of ladders or stools when necessary.
  • Work in temperatures ranging from a chilled cutting room to approximately 40F coolers and 0F freezers.
  • Work in an environment that may occasionally be wet.

Schedule

  • Full-time
  • Tuesday - Saturday

Benefits

Full-time employees receive:

  • Competitive pay based on experience.
  • MEC health care plan.
  • SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with company match.
  • Paid time off.
  • Paid holidays.
  • Paid life insurance.
  • Access to supplemental insurance through payroll deduction.
  • Generous employee discount.

Other Duties

This job description is not intended to contain a comprehensive listing of every activity, duty, or responsibility required of the position. Duties and responsibilities may change as business needs change.
