Job description

Position Summary

The Pipefitter is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of piping systems used in industrial and mining operations. This role involves working with a variety of piping materials and systems that transport water, slurry, compressed air, fuel, chemicals, steam, and other process-related fluids. The Pipefitter must be able to read and interpret blueprints, perform precision measurements, and ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair industrial piping systems and related equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, isometric drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Measure, cut, thread, bend, fit, and align pipe using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.
  • Perform flange installation, valve replacement, gasket installation, and system testing.
  • Assist with equipment installation, shutdowns, plant maintenance, and capital projects.
  • Conduct inspections of piping systems to identify leaks, wear, corrosion, or mechanical issues.
  • Perform hydrostatic, pneumatic, and pressure testing of piping systems.
  • Collaborate with welders, millwrights, electricians, and other trades personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and inspections completed.
  • Follow all company safety policies, MSHA, OSHA, and site-specific regulations.
  • Participate in safety meetings, hazard assessments, and job safety analyses (JSAs).
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure work areas remain clean and organized.

QualificationsRequired

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Journeyman Pipefitter certification or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial, mining, processing plant, refinery, or heavy construction pipefitting experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and piping schematics.
  • Knowledge of pipe fabrication techniques, materials, fittings, valves, and supports.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments and pipefitting tools.
  • Strong understanding of industrial safety practices.

Preferred

  • MSHA certification or experience working at mining sites.
  • Experience with HDPE, carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, and PVC piping systems.
  • Rigging, confined space, fall protection, and lockout/tagout training.
  • Welding or fabrication experience is an asset.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and outdoor environments.
  • Capable of standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, and bending for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and industrial environments.

Work Environment

This position is based at industrial facilities, processing plants, and mining operations. Work may involve rotating shifts, overtime, call-outs, shutdowns, and travel to remote locations. The Pipefitter must be committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
