Compass Homeschool Program is hiring instructors for several specific openings for the 2026–27 school year. We are looking for enthusiastic teachers, coaches, subject-matter experts, and skilled professionals who enjoy working with youth in a creative, flexible, in-person learning environment.
Compass is a homeschool learning center in Herndon, Virginia, serving students in K–12th grade. Our small, daytime classes go beyond standard school curriculum. Families are looking for depth, creativity, hands-on learning, strong instruction, and meaningful student engagement.
We are currently seeking instructors for the following positions:
1. BAND DIRECTOR
Compass is seeking a Band Director to lead three levels of homeschool band for students in 4th–12th grade.
- Classes will meet on Mondays for 29 weeks, beginning September 14. The program includes:
---Beginner Band (11:00 am - 11:55 am)
---Advanced Beginner Band (12:00 pm- 12:55 pm)
---Intermediate Band (1:00 pm- 1:55 or 2:25 pm)
- This position is ideal for a band director, music educator, private lesson instructor, or experienced musician who can help students build ensemble skills, music-reading ability, rhythm, tone, technique, and performance confidence.
- There may also be additional opportunities to offer private lessons to Compass students.
2. PSYCHOLOGY INSTRUCTOR/ DUAL ENROLLMENT COURSE
Compass is seeking a qualified Psychology Instructor to teach an established college-level psychology curriculum to high school students for dual enrollment credit.
- This class will serve 11th–12th grade students, approximately ages 16–18.
- The course will meet on Fridays from 1:30 pm–2:55 pm for 30 weeks, beginning September 11.
- Candidates must have a minimum of 18 graduate-level credit hours in psychology. A full master’s degree or PhD in psychology is preferred.
- This position is an excellent fit for an adjunct college professor, psychology instructor, retired professor, or qualified graduate-level professional who enjoys teaching motivated high school students in a small, discussion-oriented setting.
About the Teaching Environment
Most Compass classes meet once per week during the daytime. Class sizes are small, and students are homeschooled learners whose families choose Compass for engaging, in-person instruction and enrichment.
You do not need to be a licensed teacher. You do need strong subject knowledge, preparation, enthusiasm, classroom management skills, and a genuine interest in working with children and teens.
