Compass Homeschool Program is hiring 1 or 2 English teacher(s) for 6 specific small-group, in-person classes for the 2026–27 school year. Must be enthusiastic, creative, flexible with demonstrated experience teaching students ages 13-18.

Compass is a homeschool learning center in Herndon, Virginia, serving students in K–12th grade. Our small, daytime classes go beyond standard school curriculum. Families are looking for depth, creativity, hands-on learning, strong instruction, and meaningful student engagement. We are currently seeking instructors for the following positions:

• Middle school literature (1 or 2, 1-hour class(es) per week)
• 9th grade English (2, 1-hour classes per week)
• 10th, 11th, and 12th grade English classes (3 levels at 2 hours per week)
• College essay writing workshops (occasional)
• Classes will meet on Tuesdays & Fridays for 30 weeks, beginning September 8.
• Additional opportunities for private tutoring and to add writing courses in January

This position is ideal for a former teaching wanting a lighter schedule, an adjunct college professor with a Mon/Wed schedule, or a retired teacher wanting to stay current with a few hours. Candidates must have a degree in English, literature, writing, or communications.

About the Teaching Environment

All Compass classes meet during the daytime. Class sizes are small, and students are homeschooled learners whose families choose Compass for engaging, in-person instruction and enrichment.

You do not need to be a licensed teacher. You do need strong subject knowledge, preparation, enthusiasm, classroom management skills, and a genuine interest in working with children and teens.

All instruction is in person at our Herndon location, conveniently situated near the Dulles Toll Road, Fairfax County Parkway, and the Herndon Metro Station.
