Job description

Community Services for Children is seeking an experienced and relationship-centeredAssistant Director of Family and Community Engagement to join our team and make a difference in the lives of children and their families. The Assistant Director of Family and Community Engagement provides leadership and oversight for family engagement services across Head Start and Early Head Start programs. This position supports Family Engagement Managers and ensures compliance with program and regulatory requirements, and promotes high-quality, family-centered services that support positive outcomes for children and families. Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and develop Family Engagement Managers to ensure strong performance, professional growth, and alignment with program goals.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership of family services, ensuring consistent implementation of systems, procedures, and performance standards across sites and program models.
  • Coordinate cross-departmental efforts to integrate family engagement with education, health/mental health/disabilities, program operations, and EHS services.
  • Oversee development, implementation, and monitoring of Family and Community Engagement systems in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, the PFCE Framework, and program approaches.
  • Monitor service quality through regular review of ChildPlus data, Parent Gauge outcomes, monthly reports, and direct supervision; and lead efforts to align service delivery with goals, strategic priorities, and continuous quality improvement efforts.
  • Design and implement systems for parent leadership and shared governance, including Policy Council training and action plan.
  • Ensure family voice is elevated through feedback loops, parent surveys, and engagement in program planning.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with community partners to expand access to services and supports for families.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, education, psychology, family studies, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of leadership and supervisory experience in family services, community engagement, adult education, or related field.
  • Knowledge of child- and family-serving systems, relationship-based and strengths-focused practices and applicable regulatory requirements that support positive outcomes for children, families, and communities.
  • Experience supervising staff, coaching teams, and supporting professional development.
  • Experience designing, facilitating, and implementing training and professional learning opportunities for adults.
  • Experience using data systems, reporting tools, and technology platforms.
  • Valid driver's license and consistent access to reliable transportation for site and community visits; and willingness to travel locally and out-of-state for meetings, collaboration, and professional development.
  • Proven ability to partner respectfully with families from varied backgrounds, honoring their strengths, values, and goals.
