JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for: safely, appropriately, and judiciously transporting customers from CHI locations to various community facilities.

Pay: $20.20 an hour- approx. $42,000 annually.

FLSA: Non-exempt. Eligible for overtime.

Schedule: 10am-6pm Monday - Friday.

Location: Eastchester neighborhood Bronx, NY

JOB-RELATED DUTIES – ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

           These duties are essential and specific to the successful implementation of this position.

  • Transports customers to various locations specified on Transportation Request with Agency van.
  • Schedules daily routes, prioritizing trips to HRA, Department of Labor, transfers to/from other shelters and housing appointments for customers.
  • Maintains van in pristine condition, ensuring cleanliness inside and out.
  • Monitors and schedules routine maintenance of van (inspections, oil changes, tire rotation, etc.)
  • Reviews transportation requests with respective Supervisor.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of runs, logging mileage and destinations.
  • Adheres to proper use of company resources (cell phones, office supplies, vehicles, etc.).
  • Must be able to multitask, be flexible, and maintain a high level of attention to details.  Does not fraternize with customers; maintains a professional boundary.
  • Drives within posted speed limits and ensures that all passengers wear required safety belts.
  • Does not use cell phone or substances while driving.

What do I need to apply?

Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED required. 3+ years of experience as a Driver (especially in a social service setting) can override the education requirement.

  • Certificates or Licenses: Valid NYS driver’s license and clean driving record. 
  • Communication:  Proficiency in English required. Bi-lingual (Spanish) is a plus.
  • Reasoning Ability:  make judgment calls, perform proper notifications, and make appropriate decisions.
  • Other Skills:  Ability to relate to the underserved, homeless, and disabled populations. Work independently or as part of a team, be organized, assume responsibility, work well under pressure, be flexible, and must be even-tempered.
