GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

Work involves responsibility for participating in the development, coordination, and supervision of a comprehensive recreation summer tennis program for children.

The position is classified as part time, but could receive full time hours.

This is a seasonal position, tentatively beginning in June 2026.

Please note this posting is "Continuous" and can close at ANY TIME WITHOUT NOTICE.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Instructs children in the fundamental skills of tennis.
  • Supervises children on the tennis court.
  • Organizes and plans tennis team rosters.
  • Maintains fiscal records.
  • Officiates as required.
  • Assists with special events.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for the efficient operation of the department.
  • Position designated as Mission Critical by Department Director.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE)

  • Completion of eight school grades.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must maintain a valid telephone number.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of tennis.
  • Knowledge of first aid and CPR.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the general public.
  • Strong tennis playing abilities.
  • Ability to mediate, troubleshoot, problem solve and diffuse potential difficulties.
  • Ability to maintain statistical and fiscal records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to arrange and coordinate schedules for league and tournament play.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires active work that involves walking, playing tennis or standing some of the time and exerting up to ten pounds of force regularly.
  • The job risks exposure to significant environmental hazards, blood-borne pathogens, human waste, extreme outside temperatures, and bright/dim light.
  • The job requires normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of taste, sense of smell, depth perception, and texture perception.
