Technical Design Lead

Nichol Fisher Interiors

What You Are Responsible For

You own the space between design intent and built reality.

Technical Design Execution

Translate design into complete, buildable documentation.

Produce and oversee elevations, millwork, lighting plans, and detailed drawing sets.

Review and redline all technical work before it leaves the studio.

Eliminate ambiguity between what is designed and what gets built.

Project Execution & Site Leadership

Support and progressively own project timelines from post-design through install.

Conduct regular site visits to ensure accuracy, quality, and alignment with design intent.

Identify and solve issues in real time on site, not after the fact.

Communicate directly with contractors, fabricators, and trades with authority and clarity.

Manage conversations on site with confidence. You are not there to observe. You are there to lead.

Construction & Trade Coordination

Demonstrate strong working knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, and materials.

Read, interpret, and challenge architectural and contractor drawings where needed.

Ensure all parties are aligned on scope, details, and execution standards.

Prevent mistakes by catching gaps before they are built.

Procurement Alignment

Work closely with Procurement Manager to align product timelines with construction.

Flag long-lead risks early.

Support install readiness planning.

Team Contribution

Support and mentor junior designers on technical thinking.

Help reinforce documentation standards across the team.

Operate as a bridge between design and execution.

Drawings are clear, complete, and buildable without confusion.

Site visits result in decisions, not questions.

Contractors respect you because you know what you’re talking about.

Fewer RFIs due to strong documentation and proactive coordination.

Issues are identified early, not discovered on site.

Procurement and construction timelines are aligned.

You require less oversight over time, not more.

What You’re Walking Into

A full-service luxury interior design firm scaling quickly.

You will work directly with:

Design Director— owns design vision and sourcing

Principal— sets creative direction and business strategy

This role sits inside execution and grows into leadership.

Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in technical design, interiors, or architecture
  • Strong proficiency in construction drawings and detailing
  • Proven on-site experience with contractors and trades
  • Ability to confidently communicate and manage conversations on job sites
  • Deep understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and materials
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural plans fluently
  • Understanding of how design decisions impact budget and timeline

You cannot be precious about your work. It needs to be buildable.

You must be comfortable being held accountable.

You must be able to lead on site, not just support from a desk.

You must be able to hold your own with contractors and trades.
