About Child Development Institute
CDI is a leading children’s mental health agency in the City of Toronto offering a range of services to approximately 3,500 children ages 0‑12, youth ages 13‑18 and their families each year. Our mission is to promote and support the healthy development of children and to strengthen the families and communities in which they live. We provide four streams of service to families in need: early intervention, family violence, healthy child development and specialized mental health services for children and youth with learning disabilities.
Position Summary
Child Development Institute is seeking 2 energetic Junior Camp Counsellors (JC) to join our day camp operating out of our St. Clair Gardens site for a 6‑week summer contract. The successful candidate will ensure that the conceptualization and delivery of CDI programs and services are consistent with the mission, values, policies, procedures, standards, and priorities of the organization and are provided within assigned resources. The candidate will work within a therapeutic day camp setting utilizing the SNAP® model, an evidence‑based CBT program that serves children exhibiting serious behavioral, emotional and/or social challenges.
Responsibilities
- Support camp counsellors with the planning, implementation and delivery of camp programs;
- Participate in the effective implementation of specialized therapeutic programming for camp;
- Assist counsellors with day‑to‑day programming;
- Act as a positive role model for children, youth, co‑workers and families;
- Perform other assigned duties related to the camp.
Qualifications and Experience
- Must be trained on SNAP strategies and have experience in behaviour management.
- Must be a SNAP graduate.
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
- Must have a current and valid police record check with broad sector screening.
- Strong leadership, coaching, planning, problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skill sets.
- Experience in a therapeutic or recreational setting is an asset.
- Excellent administrative, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Exceptional communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to assume responsibility and exercise good judgment within the scope of the position.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and inclusively with groups from diverse backgrounds.
- Patience, compassion, assertiveness, strong work ethic, and proactive approach.
- Preferred candidates will have or be working toward experience in social work, child and youth care, and/or teaching.
Workplace Environment
- Concurrent and dynamic deadlines with frequent interruptions.
- Occasional travel to other community sites.
- Fast‑paced work environment.
- Frequent handling of queries and calls from managers and staff.
- Occasional requirement for flexible hours related to camp needs.

- Credential verifications and references required.
- Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check or Board Record Check.
Compensation
Hourly rate: $17.60 per hour.

- End date: July 31, 2026
