The Position: Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Finance

Position Starts: Fall 2027

Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

The minimum educational requirement for appointment to this position is a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or DBA) in Finance from an AACSB-accredited program. Applicants who are ABD will be considered if all degree requirements are expected to be completed by the start date. Candidates must demonstrate the potential for effective teaching and research leading to publication in refereed journals in the finance area.

Responsibilities:

This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in teaching, scholarship, and service. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate finance courses aligned with the candidate's expertise and departmental needs. The candidate is expected to maintain an active research agenda, leading to publications in high-quality refereed journals, and to engage in scholarly activities consistent with AACSB standards. Service responsibilities include contributing to department, college, and university governance through committee work; advising and mentoring students; supporting student organizations and experiential learning activities; and participating in professional and community service.

The Department:

The Department of Information Systems, Finance, and Accounting (ISFA) is the largest academic department in the College of Business at California State University, Chico. The department offers innovative undergraduate and graduate programs in finance, accounting, business analytics, information systems, and operations and supply chain management. Faculty are part of a collaborative and collegial community committed to excellence in teaching, impactful scholarship, and student success. The finance program supports experiential learning through initiatives such as the Center for Excellence in Finance, Financial Wellness Clinic, student-managed investment fund, and a state-of-the‑art FinTech lab equipped with Bloomberg terminals, active student organizations, and strong partnerships with industry. Out of State Employment: All work must be performed within the State of California. Faculty assignments include in’person duties that require an on-campus presence.

Authorization to Work: Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States. Chico State is not currently sponsoring faculty for H-1B work status if they are subject to the $100,000 fee established by the “Presidential Proclamation: Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers” issued on September 19, 2025. For faculty already in the United States who hold a valid nonimmigrant visa (such as F-1, J-1, or O-1), Chico State may consider filing a petition to change their status to H-1B if the fee does not apply.

Mandated Reporter: The person holding this position is considered a “mandated reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 (revised July 21, 2017) as a condition of employment. The person also will have a duty to report to the campus Title IX coordinator information pertaining to discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct or exploitation, dating or domestic violence, stalking, and/or retaliation under CSU policy.
