The manager is specifically looking for a Mist Operations Guru who can:

  • Act as the primary Mist expert onsite

The manager repeatedly emphasized that: Operational experience is more important than certifications.

A candidate with 2 years of full-time Mist operations experience would be preferred over someone with many years of networking experience but limited Mist exposure.



Role Overview

This position is an on-site Resident Engineer responsible for providing both reactive and proactive technical support for enterprise networking environments. The role focuses on supporting customer infrastructure built primarily on Juniper and Mist technologies. The engineer ensures network stability, supports deployments and upgrades, resolves technical issues, and helps improve overall network performance and reliability.

The role combines network operations, design validation, troubleshooting, automation, and customer interaction. It is heavily customer-facing and requires close coordination with both customer teams and vendor engineering support.


Key Responsibilities

  • Gather and analyze customer network requirements through workshops and discussions
  • Support design validation, testing, and deployment of new network features and configurations
  • Troubleshoot network and device issues in production and pre-production environments
  • Open, track, and resolve cases with JTAC and vendor support teams
  • Manage patches, upgrades, and software fixes in lab and live environments
  • Coordinate Return Material Authorizations (RMA) and follow through until resolution
  • Provide regular written and verbal updates on network status and incidents
  • Conduct technical workshops with customer teams to explain issues, solutions, and best practices
  • Train customer engineers on configuration and operation of Juniper/Mist products
  • Support network operations procedures and assist in defining best practices
  • Assist in implementation, migration, and upgrade planning activities
  • Collaborate with other resident engineers to share knowledge and reduce operational risk
  • Support ongoing network health assessment and optimization activities


Technical Skills Required

Networking

  • Strong experience with Juniper routing and switching platforms (QFX, EX, PTX)
  • Hands-on experience with JUNOS CLI
  • Solid understanding of BGP (iBGP and eBGP) and OSPF
  • Experience with EVPN/VXLAN in enterprise or data center environments

Wireless and Campus Networking

  • Experience with Juniper Mist AI
  • Knowledge of Mist Wireless Assurance and Marvis AI
  • Experience with campus fabric designs using Mist

Automation and Tools

  • Python scripting for network automation
  • Experience with Ansible, YAML, and JSON templates
