Branch Manager - Dee Brown Library
Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) Location: 6325 Baseline Rd, Little Rock, AR 72209
The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) is seeking an experienced, engaged, and service-minded Branch Manager to lead the Dee Brown Library.
About the Role
The Dee Brown Library is a heavily utilized, service-intensive public library serving a diverse and vibrant community. The library functions as a critical resource for individuals facing economic, educational, technological, and social barriers and is committed to providing welcoming, equitable service to all.
This position requires a highly visible, hands-on leader who is willing to work alongside staff in a fast-paced, high-touch public service environment. The Branch Manager must consistently and fairly enforce policies, address challenging situations directly, support staff in navigating complex public service interactions, and maintain a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for patrons and employees.
Essential Duties
  • Oversee day-to-day branch operations
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate library staff
  • Plan, coordinate, and promote programs and services
  • Build strong relationships through proactive community outreach
  • Ensure excellent customer service and a positive patron experience

Qualifications
  • ALA-accredited MLS, current work toward an MLS, or the equivalent of a four-year college degree plus three years related experience and/or training is required
  • Previous related management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is strongly preferred
  • Strong judgment, emotional intelligence, adaptability, and resilience, with the ability to navigate complex public service situations with compassion and appropriate boundaries
  • Knowledge of electronic information services and library technology is required
  • Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a Notary Public commission in the State of Arkansas
  • Spanish language skills are highly desirable. Employees who meet CALS qualifications for bilingual proficiency may be eligible for language differential pay

Schedule
This full-time position includes some nights and weekends.

  • Starting salary is $55,307.00 annually
