We are an SBA-certified woman-owned and HUBZone small business. CBHS is an employee-first company that has successfully placed thousands of people in meaningful and fulfilling positions, and we are driven to help build careers for our employees. Job Description: Payroll & Benefits Specialist
Location: Arlington, VA (100% On-Site Role)
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $75,000 - $85,000
Role Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our team at our Arlington, VA office. This role is an excellent opportunity for a professional who possesses a high level of analytical rigor and a bachelor's degree. You will serve as the technical bridge between payroll processing and benefits administration, ensuring data integrity across systems such as Unanet and Paycom while maintaining a seamless financial experience for our employees.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations & Systems
  • Backup Processing: Serve as the primary backup for full-cycle payroll processing to ensure consistent and timely employee compensation.

  • Unanet System Management: Facilitate seasonal new hire onboarding by setting up new users, assigning them to the correct projects, and configuring their accrual plans for benefits such as sick paid leave and paid time off.

  • Financial Adjustments: Accurately enter and update garnishments, process PTO payouts, and maintain Vacation Buy tracking.

  • Labor Compliance: Assist with time sheet corrections and manage reassignment updates within Unanet, including specialized limited-service roles.

Benefits Administration & Reconciliation
  • Paycom Maintenance: Manage and update all employee benefit elections and data within the Paycom platform.

  • Financial Auditing: Perform monthly benefits reconciliations, including HSA and FSA reconciliations for Non-SCA (Service Contract Act) employees.

  • Vendor Coordination: Identify and resolve benefits variances by communicating directly with insurance vendors.

  • 401k Integrity: Conduct regular audits to ensure 401k contribution percentages are correct and verify that new earnings codes calculate accurately within the system.

  • Compliance Reporting: Prepare and manage Health & Welfare (H&W) and Leave of Absence (LOA) reporting.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related business field.

  • Excel Knowledge: Strong proficiency is required to handle complex reconciliations and data auditing.

  • Attention to Detail: A high degree of accuracy is essential for managing payroll and benefit deductions.

  • Technical Aptitude: Ability to quickly master specialized software. Prior experience with Unanet and Paycom is a significant preference but not required for a candidate with strong technical skills.

  • Location: Must be able to commute to our Arlington VA office.

Reasonable Accommodation
If you require alternative methods of application or screening, please contact us directly. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Other duties may be assigned.
