Job description

PURPOSE OF YOUR JOB POSITION

The primary purpose of your job position is to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility during your tour of duty. Such supervision must be in accordance with current Federal , State, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the Director of Nursing Services, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times

DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY

As Charge Nurse you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

A criteria based performance evaluation has been made a part of this job description so that a more realistic evaluation can be made of your job performance. Ratings are based on a scale from 1 – 6 with 1 being the lowest, and 6 being the highest.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

It is the policy of Canton Nursing Center that we provide twenty-four hour Charge Nurse supervision, during three consecutive shifts. The general responsibility of the Charge Nurse shall i ncl ude but not limited to:

  1. Makes daily rounds of all nursing units under her supervision and performs such functions as visiting each patient to evaluate his immediate physical condition and to receive comments relating to his needs and problems. Reviews medical records, medications, resident care plans, and staff assignments.
  2. Delegates in accordance with determinants such as the size and physical layout of the facility, characteristics of patient load, the nursing care required and emotional and social needs of residents. Responsible for nursing personnel in the direct nursing care of specific residents during each tour of duty. Give medications and treatments at specified times according to Physician’s orders.
  3. An-anges her schedule to allow time for supervision and evaluation of performance of all nursing personnel on the unit.
  4. Keeps the Director of Nursing Services informed of status of Residents and other related matters through written reports and verbal communications.
  5. Assists with staffing needs as they occur.
  6. Give report to next shift supervisor.

Completes documentation of resident care in charts and monitors and co-signs resident care sheets completed by certified nursing assistants.

Famliar with procedures for taking orders, ordering medication and transcribing new orders.
