Join as a CNC/Manual Mill & Lathe Setup Machinist
Cannonball Recruiting is partnering with a precision manufacturer to hire a versatile machinist who thrives moving between manual and CNC work. If you enjoy owning the full process—from blueprint to finished part—this role puts your craftsmanship front and center.
A day in the life
Your day starts at 7:00am. You’ll plan out 1–5 setups/changeovers, switching confidently between mills and lathes. You’ll choose tooling, program at the machine (both conversational on TRAK equipment and standard G-code), cut parts, and verify results using precision instruments. When a job calls for it, you’ll design and build custom fixtures to hold complex workpieces—especially when machining challenging, high-alloy materials.
What you’ll handle
- Setup and operation of both manual and CNC mills and lathes
- Conversational programming on TRAK mills/lathes and G-code programming for CNC
- Routine exposure to Quickmill CNC Mills (experience with Quickmill and TRAK is a plus)
- Reading blueprints to determine machining steps and sequencing from stock to finished part
- Selecting and specifying tooling for each job
- Designing and fabricating custom fixtures when required
- Inspecting parts using calipers, micrometers, test indicators, and other precision metrology tools
- Working independently or within small teams to complete assignments
Materials you’ll machine
Preference for experience with high-alloy metals: Stainless Steel 304/316, Inconel 600/800, Monel 400, Hastelloy C-276.
