    Job description

CalvertHealth System, an independent, community-based health system headquartered in Prince Frederick, Maryland, seeks an accomplished and forward-thinking healthcare financial executive to serve as its next Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, the CFO will join a mission-driven, award-winning organization with strong momentum and an ambitious strategy focused on growth, access, quality, and long-term sustainability.

For more than a century, CalvertHealth has evolved alongside the community it serves, growing from a local hospital into an integrated health system that includes a 78-bed acute-care medical center, an employed medical group, primary and specialty care practices, outpatient services, and strategic clinical partnerships. The organization has built significant momentum in quality, patient safety, and clinical excellence, earning a 5-Star Overall Hospital Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in both 2025 and 2026, as well as an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group in 2026.

As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CFO will serve as a trusted strategic advisor to the President and Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and leaders throughout CalvertHealth. The CFO will provide enterprise-wide leadership for the financial health and performance of the organization, overseeing financial planning and analysis, accounting, budgeting, treasury, reimbursement, managed care, revenue cycle, internal audit, financial reporting, and investment activities. Beyond stewardship of the organization’s financial resources, the CFO will bring insight and perspective to enterprise decision-making, helping leaders understand financial opportunities and risks and translating strategy into sustainable results.

The successful candidate will be a seasoned healthcare finance leader with a demonstrated ability to develop and execute effective financial strategies while leading high-performing teams and driving operational improvement. This individual will bring strong business acumen, sound judgment, and the ability to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights for leaders and the Board. The CFO must be an engaging and collaborative leader who builds trust, develops talent, holds themselves and others accountable, and leads by example.

As healthcare continues to undergo significant financial, technological, regulatory, and operational change, the CFO will play a critical role in anticipating its impact on CalvertHealth and positioning the organization for continued strength and adaptability. The successful candidate will be a strategic, solutions-oriented partner who works effectively across clinical and operational functions and is comfortable challenging assumptions, identifying opportunities, and helping leaders make informed decisions.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a strategic financial leader to join an independent community health system with a strong reputation for quality and a clear commitment to its future. The next CFO will have the opportunity to help shape that future—strengthening the organization’s financial foundation, supporting continued investment and growth, and ensuring that high-quality healthcare remains accessible to the residents of Calvert County and Southern Maryland.

The anticipated base compensation range for this position is $400,000 to $450,000 annually, commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience. Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on several factors, including, but not limited to, education and experience within the industry.
