Job description

Central Christian Academy is seeking a dependable, friendly, and service-oriented Central Cafe Attendant to operate the school's cafe during lunch hours. This position combines the responsibilities of cashier, server, and cafe attendant into one role and serves students in Kindergarten through 12th grade, as well as faculty and staff.
The Central Cafe Attendant is responsible for preparing and serving beverages and light food items, processing sales, maintaining a clean and organized cafe, and creating a welcoming environment while ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student Food Service
  • Greet students, faculty, staff, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Serve beverages, snacks, and light meal items efficiently and courteously.
  • Ensure younger students receive assistance as needed.
  • Monitor serving areas to promote orderly and respectful student behavior.
Cashier Responsibilities
  • Operate the Point-of-Sale (POS) system or cash register.
  • Accurately process cash, credit/debit card, and electronic payments.
  • Maintain an accurate cash drawer and reconcile sales at the end of each shift.
  • Issue receipts and maintain accurate transaction records.
Cafe Operations
  • Prepare coffee and beverages for faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Prepare and serve approved items for students.
  • Restock drinks, condiments, utensils, and supplies throughout the day.
  • Monitor inventory levels and notify administration when supplies need replenishing.
Food Safety & Sanitation
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized cafe at all times.
  • Clean counters, tables, equipment, and serving areas throughout the shift.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, and food preparation equipment, if applicable.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of all food products.
Opening & Closing Responsibilities
  • Prepare the cafe for daily operation before students arrive.
  • Verify inventory and supplies are ready for service.
  • Secure equipment and clean the cafe before leaving each day.
Student Supervision
  • Help maintain a safe, orderly, and positive atmosphere during lunch service.
  • Encourage respectful behavior and promptly report disciplinary concerns to school administration.
  • Ensure students follow school expectations while using the cafe.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist with special school events requiring cafe services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the School Director.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in food service, retail, cafe, or customer service preferred.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Basic math and cash-handling skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, and organized.
  • Enjoys working with children and adolescents.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Food Handler Certification.
  • Experience working in a school, cafe, restaurant, or childcare environment.
  • Basic knowledge of coffee preparation and food service equipment.
Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to:
  • Stand for extended periods.
  • Lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Bend, reach, and carry supplies.
  • Work safely around food preparation equipment and hot beverages.
Required Background Screening
As this position serves K-12 students, employment is contingent upon:
  • Successful completion of a Level 2 Background Screening (VECHS/FDLE/FBI).
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Compliance with all Central Christian Academy employment policies and child safety requirements.
  • Compliance with all Central Christian University campus employment policies and campus safety requirements.
