The Carbon Reporting Co-op supports Canfor's Sustainability Team by contributing to greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting, emissions analytics, and sustainability data management across our global operations. This role provides hands-on experience in sustainability reporting, carbon accounting, data analysis, and climate strategy while supporting Canfor's environmental commitments and long-term sustainability goals.

As a member of the Sustainability team, you will help collect and validate energy and emissions data, support reporting and disclosure requirements, document GHG accounting processes, and investigate opportunities to leverage Microsoft Copilot and other digital tools to improve efficiency and automation.

This 8-month co-op position is based out of our Corporate Head Office in Vancouver, BC.

The Life of Carbon Reporting Co-op Includes: 

  • Collecting, organizing, and validating energy consumption, emission factors, and greenhouse gas emissions data across Canfor's operations
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 greenhouse gas inventories
  • Assisting with provincial and federal compliance reporting requirements and sustainability disclosures
  • Developing reports, dashboards, and trend analyses to support sustainability reporting and decision-making
  • Documenting GHG accounting processes, data sources, and reporting methodologies to ensure consistency and accuracy
  • Supporting third-party assurance and audit activities related to sustainability reporting
  • Identifying opportunities to improve data collection, validation, and reporting through Microsoft Copilot and other digital tools
  • Collaborating with members of the Sustainability Team on projects that support Canfor's Sustainability Strategy

 For This Role, Come Equipped With: 

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Sustainability, Engineering, Data Analytics, Business, or a related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in sustainability and climate-related initiatives
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working within the Microsoft 365 environment; experience with Microsoft Copilot is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with Power BI or other data visualization tools is an asset
  • Experience leveraging AI tools and emerging technologies to streamline workflows and improve efficiency
  • Understanding of greenhouse gas emissions reporting and the GHG Protocol is preferred
  • Knowledge of ISO standards, GHG Protocol, and the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is considered an asset
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with large datasets accurately and effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn and contribute to meaningful sustainability initiatives
