Transaction Management Accountant

Location: Houston, TX or New York, NY

We are supporting a global financial services organization seeking a Transaction Management Accountant to join a dynamic Accounting and Finance team supporting new and complex transactions across commodities, global markets, and financial services businesses.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong technical accounting background who enjoys working closely with front office, finance, accounting, risk, and senior leadership stakeholders. The position will focus on evaluating accounting treatment for new products, restructures, and complex transactions while ensuring compliant, audit-defensible outcomes that support commercial deal execution.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical accounting advisory support for new products, restructures, and complex transactions.
• Evaluate and advise on accounting treatment for financial instruments, with a strong focus on IFRS 9.
• Partner with front office, finance, accounting, risk, and senior management stakeholders to identify accounting considerations and support efficient commercial outcomes.
• Assess and manage accounting-related risks arising from new transaction proposals.
• Communicate accounting judgments, conclusions, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Challenge and assess existing accounting treatment where appropriate.
• Monitor accounting developments and provide recommendations on potential impacts.
• Support training and communication efforts related to accounting updates and complex accounting matters.

Required Qualifications

• CPA qualification or equivalent certification/designation.
• Experience in accounting advisory, transaction advisory, technical accounting, or accounting policy.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS 9 and financial instruments.
• Background in banking, financial services, capital markets, or a related environment.
• Ability to translate complex accounting guidance into commercially practical recommendations.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex accounting topics to a variety of stakeholders.
• Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, stakeholder-heavy environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Commodities, trading, or global markets experience.
• Experience working directly with front office, deal teams, or senior business stakeholders.
• Big 4 accounting advisory, transaction advisory, financial instruments, or technical accounting experience.
• Experience with complex transactions, restructures, derivatives, or accounting policy matters.
