Job description

Summary
The teaching assistant will provide support to the instructor of record during designated classroom hours. TAs work alongside the assigned faculty member and do not manage scheduled class time in the absence of that faculty member. The teaching assistant will work with students to solve problems and challenges, especially in hands-on, technical courses and projects. Teaching assistants may provide specialist knowledge to enhance the overall experience of the course.
Teaching assistants are scheduled to be available during class time and for specific preparatory meetings as needed throughout the semester. TA workloads do not reflect the same preparatory, grading, or administrative hours that assigned faculty workloads do.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Under the close supervision of an appropriate faculty member, provide specific guidance and support to students during classroom time.
• Support student learning by expanding on specific areas of expertise.
• Provide guidance to students in general project management areas such as scheduling and task prioritization.
• Provide guidance to students in the interpretation of assigned tasks, criteria, and rubrics.
• Support the instructor of the course with general administrative duties such as attendance.
Qualifications and Experience
• Completed Bachelor's degree in a closely related field applicable to the assigned course.
• Demonstrated a high level of competence in specific areas as relevant to the assigned course.
• Ability to interpret and explain complex assignment requirements and provide technical assistance to students in the context of the assigned course.
• Team or project leadership experience.
• Student-centric attitude and aptitude for student support.
