Job Title: S.T.E.A.M. Teacher
Reports To: Superintendent of Schools and/or Building Principal
Effective Date: July 1, 2026
Duty Days: 176 days (regular teacher contract)
Salary: Based on CCSD #180 Teacher Salary Schedule
Qualifications
• State of Illinois fingerprinting and background check in compliance with state code and district policy requirements. A fingerprint-based criminal history records check and a check of the Statewide Sex Offender Database and Violent Offender Against Youth Database (when available) will be performed on the successful candidate as required by State law. Each newly hired employee must complete an Immigration and Naturalization Service Form as required by federal law.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education required.
• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience.
• Additional degree, coursework, or certification in instructional technology or computer science preferred.
• Educational technology certifications (e.g., ISTE, Google) preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology applications, digital learning platforms, and curriculum integration.
• Ability to coach, train, and support adult learners.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional discretion.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
STEAM Teacher
Position Overview
The STEAM Teacher provides direct instruction to students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) through engaging, hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences that promote creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills. The STEAM Teacher develops and implements standards-aligned lessons that integrate multiple content areas while fostering innovation and real-world application of learning.
In addition to providing direct instruction, the STEAM Teacher collaborates with classroom teachers and administrators to support the integration of STEAM concepts and instructional practices throughout the school. The position serves as a resource for promoting interdisciplinary learning, project-based learning, and meaningful technology integration that enhances student achievement and engagement.
Performance Responsibilities

Direct Student Instruction
- Provides direct instruction to students in STEAM-related content areas through engaging, standards-aligned learning experiences.
- Develops and implements lessons that integrate science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics concepts.
- Creates a student-centered learning environment that encourages innovation, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.
- Differentiates instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of all learners.
- Assesses student learning and uses data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.
- Maintains accurate student records, grades, and progress monitoring documentation in accordance with district expectations.
STEAM Curriculum & Innovation
- Designs and facilitates project-based learning experiences that promote inquiry, problem-solving, and real-world application.
- Integrates coding, robotics, engineering design, digital media, computational thinking, and emerging technologies into instruction.
- Provides opportunities for students to engage in collaborative learning, innovation challenges, and STEAM-related activities.
- Maintains and organizes STEAM instructional materials, equipment, and learning spaces.
- Supports equitable access to high-quality STEAM learning opportunities for all students.
Collaboration & STEAM Integration
- Collaborates with classroom teachers to support the integration of STEAM concepts and instructional practices across content areas.
- Serves as a resource for staff seeking to incorporate technology, design thinking, and project-based learning into classroom instruction.
- Assists in the planning and implementation of school-wide STEAM initiatives, events, and student showcases.
- Collaborates with administrators and instructional staff to align STEAM instruction with district goals and curriculum priorities.
Technology & Digital Citizenship
- Promotes responsible, ethical, and safe use of technology and digital resources.
- Integrates instructional technology tools that enhance student engagement, creativity, and learning outcomes.
- Models digital citizenship and responsible technology use for students.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintains professional competence through participation in professional learning and ongoing study of best practices in STEAM education.
- Establishes and maintains positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
- Demonstrates professionalism, collaboration, and ethical conduct in all interactions.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all professional activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
• The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
• Ability to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
• Work requires regular movement between classrooms and district buildings.

Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated annually by the immediate supervisor in accordance with district evaluation procedures and the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
