Role Description The 7–8 Math Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Brooklyn, NY, responsible for delivering rigorous mathematics instruction and targeted support to students in grades 7 and 8. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and teaching math lessons aligned with school and state standards, providing small-group and individual intervention, and analyzing assessment data to inform instruction. The Math Specialist collaborates with classroom teachers and school leaders to design curriculum materials, support differentiation, and ensure consistent, high expectations for student learning. Additional responsibilities include maintaining clear communication with families, participating in professional development, and contributing to the broader school community and culture.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Mathematics and Mathematics Education, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and accessibly to middle school students.
  • Experience with Curriculum Development and Lesson Planning, including aligning materials to standards and adapting instruction for diverse learners.
  • Effective Communication skills for collaborating with colleagues, engaging families, and supporting students’ academic and social-emotional growth.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant certifications in math education are a plus.
  • Prior experience teaching or supporting middle school mathematics, preferably in urban or charter school settings.
  • Demonstrated commitment to educational equity, culturally responsive teaching, and maintaining high expectations for all students.
  • Ability to use student data and assessments to guide instruction and monitor progress.
  • Strong organizational skills, reliability, and readiness to contribute to a growing, collaborative school environment.
