JOB PURPOSE The Waukee Public Library seeks an individual who is experienced in using and managing library technology to provide excellent staff support and customer service in daily operations for our library as our new Technical Services Manager. In addition to strong technology skills, the successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of communication skills, both verbally and in writing. We are seeking a dependable leader who can maintain our current systems as well as provide recommendations for technology needs in a future new building while keeping our current Integrated Library System, TLC.

The hours for this position are typically Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM to 5 PM, with an occasional evening or weekend. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & SUCCESS FACTORS ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.) Works with Assistant Library Director to implement a strategic vision for the library's technical services functions. Serves on the Library Management Team

Recommends and administers department procedures and policies to implement library goals and objectives and meets the needs of library patrons. Responsible for the recruitment, training, professional development and performance evaluation of direct reports, while overseeing and guiding their day-to-day activities. Coordinates with other departments in planning, developing, and maintaining efficient workflows for library operations.

Manages and maintains the library's Integrated Library System (ILS), print management system, app, and website to resolve issues, and works to improve functionality. Serves as liaison between the library and automation vendors, sales representatives, and City technology staff to resolve technology issues, updates, upgrades, and replacements. Develops, implements, and manages cataloging, processing, mending, and overdue procedures of library materials.

Develops, implements, and manages ILL and IA Shares programs. Evaluates and suggests annual departmental budget; manage and comply with budget allotment. Provides quality customer service, readers' advisory, new patron orientation and ongoing patron education, and answers reference questions.

Occasionally serve as staff member in charge, providing leadership to address emergencies, safety issues, and patron feedback. Assists with digital collection and online resources development and maintenance. Compiles statistics and reports as directed.

Provides ongoing training about online resources, library technology, and technical services procedures for library staff. Investigates and responds to online, email and in-person inquiries; takes appropriate actions to resolve issues. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.

SUCCESS FACTORS: Actively supports all efforts to increase cooperation, communication, and collaboration between and among staff, library patrons and volunteers. Acknowledges and accepts the Library's mission, respects the Library's confidentiality regulations, and maintains the integrity of the Waukee Public Library. Maintains knowledge of current holdings and library resources, both print and electronic.

Ability to recognize and set priorities, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate system-wide projects. Demonstrated success in interpersonal and communication skills. Be comfortable working in close proximity to all age categories.

Working knowledge of electronic services, Internet tools, social media and library related technology and trends, and the ability to embrace the challenge of continuously learning new tools, software, and technology to meet typical library needs. Continually seeks and participates in opportunities for continuing education and professional growth to maintain an understanding of trends and development in the library field. Ability to conduct a reference interview and be able to answer reference questions with authority and tenacity to meet patron needs.

Improves the effectiveness and efficiency of all library operations with positive and proactive creative approaches to challenges. Demonstrates sound time-management skills by effectively and efficiently organizing, prioritizing, and completing multiple assignments in a timely manner. Has a professional understanding of librarianship.

Understand and internalize the importance of seeking resolution to problems and concerns by bringing them to the direct attention of supervisor in a timely manner. Be attentive to the City's and the Library's standards for customer service, accuracy, quality, efficiency and all City and Library policies and procedures. Represents the City professionally and effectively to the community and library patrons.

QUALIFICATIONS QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in library science or a related field required, master's degree in library science preferred. Two years of public library work experience required, including experience maintaining library technology systems. Supervisory experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Required to move or lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork. Be able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (using electronic and handwritten) in English with other employees, library patrons, and the community.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Climate-controlled office with hazards typical of that environment, minimal outdoor work is required. Standard work hours include evenings and weekends. To successfully fulfill the essential functions of this position, employee must maintain standard work hours within the Waukee Public Library building.
